Why I write flash fiction I discovered flash fiction two years ago, my kind of stories to the point no shitting around. Some writers like to paint a picture; you only do that when it applies directly to the story, so why assemble words, not to the point. That's how I feel, at least, I like that I don't have to read through 200 pages to get to the point and the ending. Some stories need all of the meat because that's the story, but I like the story to keep moving. I have found myself reading a novel, and I'm like, get the point already. I want to know what happened, but the story seems to stall. I found myself cheating and looking ahead a couple of chapters or the end of the book or story. There are stories or novels where I've read every page because it flowed together to the end. When I was younger and had more time on my hands, I was an avid reader, making me want to write. I don't know if I'm any good; I've had mixed reviews and comments.

The Minds Nest
Darkness, Void, Reality What is it that hides in the shadows? Is it darkness? Is it light? Is it the complexity of life and death? I’ve faced what lingers in the shadows. It is no monster or creature of the void. It is not darkness or light. The thing that hides in the shadow is a more complex being of intelligent species of our innate selves. A being of great overture of reality. The minds nest of memories forgotten or lost. Hidden in the depths of despair. What is it that it needs to hide in the shadows? Is there some other being of complexities that cannot shape the reality of our own world? Or is it us who hide such atrocities in the shadows to be forgotten or lost; only to incarnate a much more powerful creature that the void has made whole. Whatever the reason or cause I journey into this atmospheric shadow to find answers of the unknown. I am my minds nest. A creation of quadratic simplicity. The keeper of all reality. Whatever convulses, convulses through me. The crumbling foundation has begun its separation. A void and its darkness firmament upon my crest. In the darkness it waits for prey to travel on a lost path. I lost you and you lost me. How can I move on into the void if such perils are not yet poised. Come with me and see what you find. Inside the darkness you will bind. A treasure yet not known upon the crest of unborn sewn.

El Cuco
This happened to me around 1996, in La Vega, Dominican Republic. I was 6 years old, and living with my Grandmother at the time. My mother emigrated to the United States with her new husband for a new beginning. Dominican Republic is a beautiful paradise country, but depending the area in which you live. I lived in a neighborhood where everyone knew each other for a long time. They would take care of each other and share food. Every night the lights would go out on different neighborhoods and people would have candles and gas lamps ready. Our house had 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. One of the bedrooms was next to the bathroom on the left and it had a window that looked out at the kitchen. My room was on the right side of the bathroom. On the far left side there is a door that connects to the master bedroom, which you can enter through my room and through the kitchen. One night I was playing outside on the side porch of the house with my grandmother and little brother. As usual the lights when out and all I heard were people shuffling around their houses and asking each other for the candles and the matches. My grandmother had a lamp that had a radio on it and it worked with batteries. She usually places it on the window that divides the kitchen with the other room . She does this so we have light in the kitchen and on our way to the bathroom. This particular night, after the lights went out, I went into the house and to my bedroom. Before going in my room I stopped at the bathroom to wash my hand. The other door in my room was closed and the windows were open. When I finished washing my hands, I walked in my bedroom. As I step in lights came on, on the streets and it illuminated the door in my room. I stand still as I see a figure on the door. It was this tall manly figure with a round hat and a long trench coat. Everything was black even as the lights from outside shined on it. I stood there for at least 1 minute looking at it. Froze to the ground I couldn't move. In my mind I was in shock thinking it might be El Cuco. And he appeared to take me from my family and I'll never see them again. I saw movement by where it was standing and ran outside. Shaking and with sweaty hands I hold my grandmother's hand and told my her what I saw. She told me that it wasn't real but I know what I saw. She went with me back to my room and turned the light on and showed me that nothing was there. I'll always remember that shadow on the door. I haven't seen it again since and I'm 30 now, but I know that if I stayed there longer something would had happened to me. It was a scary moment in my child hood. I didn't like the darkness and the shadows for a long time, but I know that it was El Cuco. El Cuco is a mythical creature used in Spanish speaking countries to scare kids from being outside at night and also when they don't behave. The saying would go like this, "if you don't behave El Cuco will come and take you". I know I saw El Cuco that night, I'm just glad I haven't seen it since.

It's 2AM Somewhere
Max Arcane was a cool guy, a legend in his own mind, like Elvis or Prince or Keanu Reeves. He was young at heart, always hanging out in the park with girls that were way too young for him. A lion surrounded by young females. He loved collecting movies, especially horror blu rays. He swore he would kill anyone that tried to take his flicks. "Don't take my flicks man!" Max told his friend Reggie. His friends were all younger. Reggie was his protégé, in training to be the next late night underground film/music review master.

Reed's Literary Horror Review of 'Through The Deep Forest' by Russell C. Connor (2021)
Yeah, this is a pretty good dark fantasy. It's not my favorite read coming out of 2020, but then this is my first for 2021 and had its hooks in pretty deep. Already I'm giving this one my ADHD seal of approval. I found it easier to consume than most of the books I read in 2020 which is an impressive feat, in of itself. Seriously, getting me to throw back 100 pages in a single sitting just never happens. Due to my severe ADHD, it can take me a good week to read a whole book, this one I took down in three days.

Haunted in the Night
“You didn’t know about the letter, you couldn’t have helped her and if you had been with her you could have gotten hurt or taken too, maybe Helena knew this so she didn’t tell you to protect you" Claire speculated, she believed Chad to be innocent.

Winchester
The Winchester house. In the heart of gorgeous San Diego CA & everything I wanted in a house. It was 2010, my husband at the time was deployed in the Navy, and I was in search of a house for our family before he returned. I was falling short of luck. Everything was either taken, too small, too expensive, or just not what I wanted. There was this little yellow house built in 1940. I passed it up a couple of times honestly; when I had nothing left I thought why not just look at it. It was PERFECT! I called the owner and he said it was still available and everything just fell into place. I moved my two children, Great Dane and myself in a month later. It was a warm September afternoon. Lovely outside with the warm sun and cool beach breeze as we were oh so close to the ocean... but the house was warm inside. No air conditioning out there really, so we opened the windows and started unloading. The outside of the house was a mustard yellow with deep hunter green trim. Lush grass that seemed to always have beads of water in it, Cala lilies, succulents, and plants of every kind in the front and all down the side of my home. The inside of the house had a different design of tile in every room. The dining room looked like a giant chess board with black and white checkered tile. Some of the walls were chocolate brown like a freshly melted Hershey bar with seafoam ceilings, pumpkin orange with cream white forks my son, and maroon with cream white for my daughter. French doors that open to the green backyard with a play set for the children the massive garden, green grass everywhere, a large porch and a huge fence that had designs with colorful paint all around my yard. The kitchen was huge with large counter space, a wet bar, original tiled counter tops from 1940, painted with seafoam the custard yellow with its original 1940 O’Keege & Merrit stove. So much character in this little old house...
