The Haunted Library
We don’t tell our guests about the library. Here at Chateau de Livres Resort, we have a wide array of amenities. An Olympic-size lap pool, a world-class spa, a Michelin star restaurant, and of course the most luxurious guest rooms this side of the continental divide. Despite our name, though, the library in the basement is strictly off-limits to all but a few select staff.

Ghosts of the Ocean
To: Marielle (Mom) Subject: Arrived safely! Date: April 17 Hi mom! I made it! Phew, that was a long flight, but I’m here now and I’m so excited! Plymouth is the cutest town - did you know this is where the Mayflower left from? I didn’t put that together until I got here.

They Saw Me...
They saw me... I’m do not like the water I kept reassuring my friends and they begged me to take a cruise with them for my big “Over the hill” birthday. No, I repeated over and over again until my face turned red. But we’ve already purchased the package and it’s to your favorite place, my cousin exclaimed in excitement. Plus, are you the one that always says, you only live once, she reminded me as if I really wanted to hear that at this point. With a knot in my throat and an unsettling in my stomach, I quickly said okay, okay before I could change my mind. But we have to have an inside cabin and I’m not stepping out on deck until we reach our destination. You guys know how hydrophobic I am. They all just came in for the group hug as if I hadn’t said anything. But my heart was saying something different.

Infected
Mom had a hangnail once; it put her in the hospital. I know that sounds dumb, but it’s true. She kept pestering it, picking at it and chewing on it before she managed to pull it out of the skin, wounding the crease along her nail bed and cuticle. She rinsed it off and forgot about it.

White Knuckle Driver
I was on the phone with my latest best friend Etta. She had recently asked me to take her to the airport. As well as my aversion to driving, I hated disappointing people and found it difficult to say no, especially when I thought someone needed me and had taken the opportunity to befriend me. Others who understand friendships much better than I do know there are two favors that will test any friendship, helping a friend move and taking a friend to the airport.

BLACK SOUL
The sea was wet. The sea was silent. The sea was as flat as a plate of piss and almost as yellow from the scorching sun staring down at the tiny dinghy I was lying in, dying in, thirsting for a glass of water. The only time any movement occurred on the sea was when I changed positions. As the dinghy rocked, the hungry waves' watery lips slurped, sucked and licked their way along the keel as if awaiting a feast and I was the main course. Salt water sloshed, slid and slithered inside the bottom of the boat like a slinking snake caught in the open with no where to hide. My eyes burned, my skin burned, and my mind burned.

The Oak Tree To Somewhere Else
I was cruising just outside of Livermore when I spotted a bright neon sign. It was shaped like a giant cowboy boot and its bright letters it proclaimed the magic word … “Open”. Strangely enough, I’d passed by here before and never noticed the rundown building holding up the sign, but it did appear to be a bar. I was thirsty and this looked like the kind of place that might attract the type of person I was looking for. My goal was to meet up with someone I could pump for a few ghostly tales of the California wine county that I could use on my blog.

The Scarlet Haired Maiden
“Never look in her eyes,” he said. “Look to the horizon and concentrate on the ship. Her charms are many and all-powerful, but you have to be strong. You have to look to the ship on the horizon. It always appears when she's here, and it may be your only saviour. She can’t look there or stand between you and the ship and will do all she can to make you look her way

Stranded at Sea
My mind is foggy. Adrenaline is pumping, and my ears are ringing; my throat is full and choking. Of what? Bitter, burning, salty ocean water. Why? I'm struggling to stay afloat in the Atlantic Ocean, far from any civilization. That's right; it's coming back to me. I fell overboard! From where? My cruise ship. I was on a trip to visit the Caribbean for a well-deserved vacation. I was so excited; I'd never been on an exotic trip before. It was a massive win at the grocery store in a drawing, of which I never won anything. I dashed home and began packing shortly afterward. The ship would leave first thing in the morning.

A Warning at Sea
The water had gotten warmer since Sam first started floating in it, clinging to a piece of wreckage. He awoke with brief memory of how he had arrived at this point. Looking around, he saw nothing but open water. How did I get here? Where is everyone else? Is this how I’ll die? These thoughts ran wildly through his head, and then he passed out floating on a broken piece of the ships hull. A few hours later, he awoke in a bed with another man starting down at him. Sam sat up startled, as he did not know how he had gotten out of the water.
