Feverish
Veronica adjusted her locket with gloved hands before she slunk through the rusted back door of an abandoned local pizzeria. She hated the way the lobster clasp caught on the mole on her decolletage. The cumbersome steel door was much heavier than she anticipated, causing her to stumble over her heels as she ripped her stockings on her way out.

Chain Reaction (Part One)
In a world of perpetual darkness on a concrete island surrounded by a sea of death is not the life I envisaged for myself or my beloved wife but sadly that is what our earthly life has come to. A cardboard box to keep us warm in an atmosphere of 24 hour freezing temperatures with no hope of rescue or a return to life as we once knew.

The Robber Bridegroom
I grew up most often the only child with a single father in the military. Sometimes, usually for a few weeks during the summer, my younger sister would visit, and I would have a playmate. My father frequently deployed, and I remember one time staying with my grandma. She gave me an old book of fairy tales that used to be my father’s, and holding it would make me feel close to him when he was away. It was a small, red, leatherbound copy of Grimm’s Fairy Tales, with gold inlay and wording. The pages were old and worn, and the binding was starting to fall apart. I wore it down more by frequently reading it, or having my grandma read it to me. Eventually she gave me the book to keep, and I still have it on my shelf today, over 25 years later. The book was published in 1973, so it is now nearly fifty years old. Copies of this book run between $8-$50, depending on condition of the text and where you are buying from.

What Do You Covet?
“Please, don’t do this! There’s got to be another way,” pleaded the victim. The other man inched closer forward. His arm poised and bent at the elbow, brandishing a large knife. Fresh blood coated the tip of the blade. The victim slowly backpedaled, trying to maintain distance, never taking his gaze off his aggressor. The aggressor continued to push forward, his knife at the ready. The victim tossed anything of value at his aggressor, including a half-filled water canteen, rations, and his backpack.

Forgotten Chambers
My life feels perfect in every way. I have a great career, a nice house, good health, and best of all my smoking hot Heather to share it all with. I never understood why she decided to drop law and instead work with inner-city youth, who the system gave up on long ago, but it was her passion. Those kids need a good influence like her around. Hell, I need a good influence even more.

Day of Tomorrow
Running, Panting, Wheezing, I am sick of it, I just need to relax, I can do that when I am dead.I dropped myself down next to a banged up abandoned SUV and took a massive deep breath even with this gas mask I have on it’s still hard to breath as if the gas is to strong and thick. I looked around, on my right I can see a lifeless corpse staring into an opened heart shaped locket, her body looks like a skeleton with a slab of skin on her, looking up and the sky looks as orange and green to it with a slim of purple streaks here and there. You can see a few streaks of oranges and greens in the air right in front of me.

The Feast
There are rules and if you want to break those rules feel free. Just don’t think you’ll be able to come crying to me. Not that I wouldn’t want to help you, it’s just you might not make it back to me in the first place. So for your sake follow the rules won’t you, the main ones are fairly simple. Rules are as follows: never leave the compound at night, don’t approach other pods, wear protective gear, and always double-tap a zale.

The Househelp
Mrs. Robert Jackson picked up a shiny, golden delicious apple. She frowned upon seeing a dark spot, set it back, and instead looked towards the granny smith. Mr. Robert Jackson preferred tart apples, but she intended to make a pie. Her preference for pies was a mix: ½ honey crisp and ¼ golden delicious, with her “secret” addition of pear. She smiled, pleased with her purpose. This was a gift to Robert for the locket he gave her: a heart, with a red hardened stone that filled the locket space. It was peculiar, yes, but Robert was allowed his odd taste in gifts.

The Last Man
A candle flickered giving off a dim almost melancholy light. The quarters of the decrepit lighthouse weren't very well lit. They were furnished about as well as they were lit. Cans of nonperishables and crates of water stood in unsteady stacks. On a cot near the small table that held the candle sat a man. His hair and clothes were unkempt, his face was bearded. He stared at the flame of the candle, watching it dance in the darkness. The wind outside howled like a maddened beast. He paid no attention to the wind or the cold.
