Stranger
“So, Stranger, what happened to you?” The words crest against the misshapen lumps of what might have once been ears atop her head. She raised bleary, half scarred over eyes to look across the oily, foul-smelling fire pit, at the vagrant who shared her camp. Taking her time to reply, the woman slowly raised herself up, before speaking in a voice reminiscent of screeching metal and twisted flesh.

Once upon a time, there was a girl named Vasilisa, and her mom was dying. On her deathbed, Vasilisa's mom gave her a haunted doll and said “Give this doll a little bread and a little drink, and my blessing will bring it to life, to comfort you.” This is a Super Normal thing: haunted doll mom.

Bloodlines - Part 3
The rest of the day was spent moving my things into the house. As I did, I became depressingly aware of how little furniture I had. The house wasn't very big, and yet it retained quite a large amount of empty space. In the master bedroom I put a small lamp, my dresser, cot, mattress, pillow and bedding. My computer, a small office chair that was little more than a stool on wheels with a back, and the bookshelf went into the room that would have been mine as a kid.

A Long Way From Home
Meghan opened her eyes slightly as beams of sunlight entered the room through the window. As she sat up and stretched, a glimpse of the chase she had with the NAA (National Alien Association) the other day crossed her mind. She did not know why they wanted her mother’s necklace, but she would give her life to keep it safe. Yet, it was nearly impossible to do so, as there was more than one government trying to get their hands on it. There was no place to hide. Meghan could be found in every place that she tried to hide. The world was still in shambles after the United States was nuked and invaded by China and Russia, two years prior. Although Meghan was grateful to have survived the attack, she was still traumatized about losing her family and her old life. The cities were now only soot and ashes. The nuclear blasts had melted everything all the same. The forests and towns were all burned, and everything was destroyed. There were even reports of more than half the population being wiped out of existence. The government only tried to rebuild the capital. Every other city was either destroyed or taken over by alien governments.

A Demon's Day
“Please! It was my mother’s! It’s all I have left!” The screams, that were once like music to my ears, now grated nerves I didn’t know I had. I used to enjoy the feeling of bones cracking beneath the heel of my shoe, much like how I was crushing the young woman’s hand now. Blood poured from the opening my stiletto had made and swirled in dry red dirt. It should have been exhilarating. Should have.

In a Dark, Dark Childhood
I’ve always loved darker tales; the commentary and sadness of The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, the extraordinary folktales of The Storyteller by Jim Henson—all the writings of Roald Dahl. The storybook in Resident Evil: Village is often commented as too scary a tale for a little kid. Not me; I would have treasured such a book.
