Blood, Rust and Blueberries
As sun set on the small, western town of Merylville, the summer heat lingered, and flashes of lightning lit up the omni-colored sky. There were large greyish-purple clouds gathered overhead, but rain was extremely rare in these parts. The townsfolk were closing their local shops and rounding up their horses to ride home for the evening, hurriedly to avoid the potential dangers of mother nature’s beautiful fury in the skies.

My Worst Nightmare
I walked the familiar road home from my best friend Savannah’s house later than I normally did. Living out in the country, we were neighbors but my house was a mile away from hers. I usually tried to leave before it was dark because street lights don’t exist out here and I hate walking home when it’s pitch black. Thankfully, the full moon guided my path home. The sound of crickets chirping and the steady pace of my boots crunching against the dirt soothed me until I realized there was the sound of another pair of shoes behind me.

Ritual
She stood with her hands folded in front of her, watching as the sun set behind the barn. As the sun descended below the horizon, it left a reddish orange glow that looked like fire. The clouds drifted towards the east, fleeing the sunset as smoke would an actual fire. It was a sight to see, but it was short-lived as the moon rose in the sun’s place.

Soul Eater
The full moon cast a blue glow that shone through my blinds and left a horizontal pattern imprinted on my carpet. Little flecks of dust stirred up by the air conditioning glinted as they passed by the cracks of light. The display was peaceful and memorizing in their simple way. It was hard to think of the dust being a dirty particulate when they danced in the light like that.

The Park
The town of Fairflower was not known for exciting events, at least not until this past year. And exciting might be the wrong word. Dark, twisted, nightmarish events is a much more accurate description of the things that began happening last June. It was possibly the most boring and cliché small town ever to exist. Two small restaurants, a coffee shop and a grocery store made up the entirety of main street as well as a park that was basically just a neglected patch of grass with a picnic table next to a rusty jungle gym. All the yellow police tape made it even more uninviting.

The old blue barn. The last time I was here, felt like my last day on Earth. I get out of my car and glance towards the yellow grass surrounding the blue building. Mission Complete
The approval from his loyal followers was what fueled his motivation. A thrill shot through the fibers of his muscles and nerve endings every time that green light lit up on his webcam. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It
At this point, you’d have to be living under a rock not to have heard of the Conjuring universe and seen at least a couple of the films. When James Wan’s The Conjuring made its debut in 2013, it turned out to be more than just a reasonably decent haunted house movie. It launched a billion-dollar horror franchise that remains wildly popular to this day.
