B movies conjure up images of cheesy special effects and bad dialogue, but that doesn't mean they can't be highly entertaining. Think of them as the cheap romance novels of the film world: fun and mostly mindless. During the depression, they started running B films after the feature, but today it generally just means the film has a certain cheap quality to it.

The hallmarks of any B movie are a stripped down budget. Actors are either at the end of their rope or at the beginning, writing riddled with plot holes, and a director looking to cash a paycheck. However, sometimes this can create a campy goldmine. Much like any Jackson Pollock, at first glance it's a total mess, but upon further inspection somehow it all works out beautifully.

Netflix has everything — so, of course, they've got a ton of B movies. If you're looking to avoid a dud, because trust me, there are many of those, as well. Reference this list of the best B movies on Netflix next time you sit down and stream.

From Dusk till Dawn

It starts off as a rather run of the mill crime film where two brothers commit a murder after a robbery goes wrong. The brothers, played by George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino — so you know it'll get violent — steal an RV driven by a pastor played by Harvey Keitel. One of the best B movies on Netflix for the star power alone.

The film goes off the rails from here, far into campy B territory. They stop off at a strip club to lay low in Mexico, but it's run by bloodsucking vampires. From there on out it turns into a vampire killing romp, complete with silver bullets and crucifixes.

Sharknado

Sharknado is an utterly ridiculous movie that somehow spawned multiple sequels. This mess is cluttered with insane CGI and neglects to solve the plot hole in the film's title — tornados don't happen in the ocean! That being said, it's one of the best B movies on Netflix.

Why? It's entertaining enough, plain and simple. And, it brings in a few burnt out celebrities that make these types of films enjoyable. It stars Tara Reid and David Hasselhoff, so don't expect all the threads to be tied up no matter how many sequels they make.

Tucker & Dale vs. Evil

Tucker & Dale vs. Evil is one of the best B movies on Netflix, and a terrific example of a horror-comedy. It's about a bunch of rich assholes who run into Tucker and Dale, two friendly hillbillies just trying to help any way they can.

Of course, the rich kids think the worst of them, and hilarity ensues. A series of misunderstandings make up the plot, and it leads to a lot of violent, gory accidents. Whether or not you believe the film has deeper meaning (a don't judge a book by its cover sort of thing) it's still a fun watch.

Zombeavers

After a toxic spill, the beavers have become large and incredibly bloodthirsty. Yes, that's the plot of Zombeavers. It has the classic trope of the young campers going to the lake only to be terrorized by these mutant beavers. There's also plenty of sex and drugs to go around.

It features a cameo from maybe the funniest standup comedian alive right now, Bill Burr. Burr alone makes this one of the best B movies on Netflix, and if you're a fan (which you should be), you'll love it.

Pound of Flesh

80s action movie superstar Jean-Claude Van Damme creates B movie gold with 2015's Pound of Flesh. The plot revolves around a man's heroic attempt to help a woman in distress, but ends up waking up the next day without a kidney. From there, he plots his revenge.

While many of the action sequences seem highly unlikely, the presence of a legend like Van Damme makes this one of the best B movies on Netflix.

WolfCop

WolfCop is full-on horror-comedy madness. It starts when boozy cop Lou blacks out. Then, as a series of strange and violent events begin to occur, Lou realizes that he has been turned into a werewolf as part of a larger plan. WolfCop is a story of one cop's quest to become a better man.

Just what is the larger plan? You're going to have to watch one of the best B movies on Netflix to find out. The films runtime is only 79 minutes, so even if you're not into the campiness, you aren't burning that much time.

John Dies at the End

John Dies at the End is a cult film made on the cheap. A new street drug that sends its users across time and dimensions has one drawback: some people return no longer human. Can two college dropouts save mankind from this silent, otherworldly invasion?

On the street they call it Soy Sauce — and it's strong. Will John, who can't even hold down a minimum wage job, be able to stop it before it's too late? Short answer: no. But, watch one of the best B movies on Netflix to see how it all goes down.

Exeter

During an all night, drug-fueled party at an abandoned asylum known for the horrific treatment of its patients, a group of ordinary teens decide to experiment with the occult, which mysteriously leads them into violent possession. Worse yet, the group is unable to escape the asylum and are picked off one by one.

The horny teen's only chance for survival is to uncover the asylum's creepy mysteries and find a way out before it's too late. Can they do it? Stream one of the best B movies on Netflix to see how it turns out.
