Historical Proofs and origins of the idea of Gravity:

Laws of Motion, initial idea and observation that heavy objects or liquids tend to come near each other was discovered and was called as guruthvathpathanam -

In the time period: 600-200BC-

Found in the VAISESIKA SUTRA written by-Kashyapa Muni also called by few as kanada muni.

400BC- Aristotle- believed that heavier objects tend toward a point due to their inner gravitas(heaviness)

100bc- vitruvius - understood objects fall based on their specific gravity.

600AD- John philoponus modified aristotlean or theory of impetus which Kashyap muni described in 600-200BC in vaiseshika sutra..It was about projectile Motion under gravity.

7th century AD- (598AD- 668AD) Brahmagupta- first to speak of gravity and describe gravity as an attractive force. And called Gravity as Guruthvakarshanam.

Bhaskar Acharya II(Mathematician and astronomer) - 1114AD- 1185AD- Describes Gravity as an inherent attractive property of Earth in the section Goladhyayah(On Spherics) on his treatise Siddhanta Shiromani.

1000AD- 1100AD- ibn sina(avicenna), ign haytham, Al-biruni, Al-khazini - get inspired by arabic translations of ancient indian texts and come up with their own theories, few of which are proven wrong later.

1300-1400- Nicole oresme(Mean speed theorem) Jean Buriden&Albert of Saxony - developed theory of impetus and linked it to acceleration and mass of an object. They were both really influenced by Islamic Scholars who themselves got knowledge by translating Indian texts of vaisesika sutra, and many other ancient indian literature.

1452-1519- Leonardo da vinci- mother and origin of gravity is energy was speculated by him.

1514AD- Nicolus copernicus - rediscovers heliocentric model which was already described by Bhaskaracharya II before 1200AD.

1600-1700- Galileo Galilei- found physical evidence and proved all objects tend to

Accelerate equally in free fall.

Existence of gravitational constant was explored by many Scholars in 17th century. All the knowledge gathered till then was then used by Newton(1642AD-1727AD) to come up with his mathematical formulations..

In 1679- Robert hooke wrote to Newton about inverse square law followed for orbital Motion. And then by 1684, both if them told Edmond galley that they have mathematically proved it.

Conclusion:

Initial works of Classical Mechanics in Physics were done and carried out by Indian and Arabian philosophers, scientists, astronomists and mathematicians. With the sea trade, and invasions, several scientific manuscripts were translated from Sanskrit or Prakrit to Arabic in different time periods. Though Indians started such original work initially, they could not continue due to continuous Islamic invasions, burning of libraries, destruction of Ancient non-theology related studies oriented Universities such as Nalanda and Takshasila University(Both were the oldest universities with rooms and residential facilities) and war in the subcontinent region of India. And then, many ancient Arabic scientists enthusiasts took up interest in pursuit of truth, used the contents of the books that were translated from Sanskrit to Arabic, continued the scientific convention. The number systems and mathematical concepts such as "Arabic numerals", "Algebra", "Trigonometry", "Pythagoras theorem" used now were also an Indian work that was translated to Arabic by Arabic scholars and then spread across, when their works were translated to Latin and English, and after renaissance, books became common in the western world and few interested people in the western region started pursuing the scientific work by building up on the base works of the Indians and Arabians, Newton was one of them who did that. Well, this scattered accumulation and continuation of the scientific works helped the humanity as a whole.

So, should we respect Newton ? For what works should he be respected ?

Newton is mainly respected, not for the concept of gravity but for his genius mathematical reasoning of the existing concept of gravity with inverse square law and introductory calculus after experimentation, spectrum of prism and for the book that had a comprehensive detailed explanation of classical mechanics in physics, after studying all the works, ideas and concepts of the people(from around the world) that came before him in the research of classical physics, in his book "Philosophia Naturalis Principia Mathematica". This book became a collection of all the concepts of physics that were originally thought of and researched upon by people that came way before him in his field. This book made it easier for future generations to refer and study, becoming a one stop solution for all concepts that were researched upon till his time period, for that is why, we respect him. And most importantly, the man that gave the idea of writing such a book to Newton and also actual publication of that book was done by Mr. Halley, yes, the same one who discovered that asteroid.
