What the World Needs Now

Love, laughter and some cuteness overload

So through this Pandemic Tik Tok has really become a thing - a phenomena. There's so much content on Tik Tok now it's difficult to know what's even trending and to sift through all the videos. There are like a billion Tik Tok users worldwide in 150 countries with 800 million monthly users.

Tik Tok brings the world to your doorstep on your phone or tablet or computer by providing entertaining, and some not so entertaining videos in short 30-60 second bites.

So what makes a really good Tik Tok video? Besides getting the technical angles right that's going to be different for every individual based on what they are into.

I'm a Psychotherapist who works with people's trauma so in my downtime I'm drawn to things that mostly make me laugh but are also cute, light and provide some hope. I like videos that are clever too.

There are lots of animal videos on Tik Tok especially dogs and cats which I love. Most of the videos I love on Tik Tok involve dogs and are featured below.

In the words of the famous song written by Burt Bacharach "What the World Needs Now" is love sweet love. With 2020 being such a messed up year for many, it's also been amazing how much creativity has emerged from the wreckage. Tik Tok has become a brilliant forum for people to express their creativity and with Tik Tok videos they are short and sweet.

While there is so much hopelessness around I'm drawn to social media where there is laughter, fun, cuteness and love.

Here's a few of my favourite Tik Tok videos that make me smile and let me know that there is still some hope in the world.

This guy Jeff Van de Zandt from Melbourne, Australia is hilarious and very, very clever.

He is a creative designer and his Tik Tok videos are just that - highly creative. He does everything from time lapse videos to Disney character impersonations to fake workouts in a gym. I have included a sample of a couple of my favourite videos of his.

Here he takes the super cala fragilistic expialidocious song and turns it into well, what else can you call it but a drunken wine parody touting the perils of lockdown. In my opinion he's very entertaining.

Anyone that can take a political speech sound bite and turn it into a Tik Tok video wins my vote.

"When Scott Morrison (Astralian Prime Minister) delivered some stern words to ABC journalist Andrew Probyn at a press conference, the last thing anyone expected was for a social media craze to take hold on the social media platform TikTok.

Melbourne art director Jeff Van De Zandt is one of those TikTok stars, whose video of him miming and dancing to the Prime Minister has been viewed thousands of times.

Sammy J delves into how the 30-second world of TikTok can change your life.

Because of the coronavirus shutdown, Mr Van De Zandt says he was "left with a lot of time and not a lot to do".

"I did this because it was fun for me and I'm going to keep doing it until it's not fun anymore," he said. "

His Tik Tok video below of a political speech done as a dance party song is just so clever.

He gives you the impression that during strict lock down in Victoria, Australia he really does just have waaayyy too much time on his hands.

Although he has 95K followers, Australia is a small market compared to the rest of the world so he is a locally grown talent and probably the rest of the world don't know about him and are missing out on his quirky, entertaining videos. There is a wide array of character's portrayed in his account.

I started following him when I saw him on our nightly news. I'd like the rest of the world to catch up and view his cleverness. I think his videos are very different to what else is on Tik Tok and he has great dance moves.

The next video is just so full of sweetness. This little baby girl is hugging and kissing her dog and singing to it "You are my Sunshine". The dog is incredibly patient with this child, well almost, it is until close to the end of the video.

This account merrymouse92 has only 15K followers and seems to be an account that features a mother from Ohio with sweet video's of her little girl so probably why not too many people know about her videos. The account is almost like a daily diary of what cute things her baby is doing. May not be of interest to too many people but the video below was featured on Facebook and captured my attention.

I love it because it's pure and simple and just adorable. Makes me smile because of the innocence of children and also that beautiful bond between animals and children.

The next Tik Tok account has 35k followers but only 1 video and the video is featured below. It is just too cute. In the days, before the pandemic when you could travel overseas, I always loved travelling but I also always missed my dog when I was away.

It's always an amazing feeling to come home to your dog/s and I rush home for that alone (as well as a shower after a long haul flight).

This Tik Tok video by Peter Sage of his arrival back home after travelling somewhere and his two Jack Russells dogs greeting him at the airport just captures what it's like to arrive home and see your dogs. Only for him rather than having to wait to get home, it's at the airport. This is the human -dog version of the movie "Love Actually."

The dog's excitement when they see their owner makes me smile. Dogs are just the best and this is a great example of the unconditional love you receive from dogs.

This next video actually makes me cry and smile at the same time. I find it so incredibly moving. The pure joy of this blind dog playing in the mud. Doesn't get much better than this.

The sound track of Ed Sheeran's "Happier" also guaranteed to make you cry or smile or both.

Overtime has 12.6 million followers so not so sure how overlooked this video is but had to share it because it had such a huge impact on me. It's such a simple video but has such a strong message of simplicity and joy. The dog is blind but using all it's other senses to have fun and frolic. The Labrador is able to compensate for her/his missing sight. The video is just beautiful.

"I kinda had a hard day... this made it better" is the description in the tagline of the video. Watching this Tik Tok video certainly makes my day. I just love this dog and have watched it so many times. If we could all be a bit more like this dog the world would be a better place. Still makes me teary each time I watch it.

This last video I am featuring is just plain funny. Well, I think it's funny anyway. It's two parent's getting their revenge on their kids by acting like kids and messing up the house.

angelalah325 Tik Tok account appears to be a video blog of a Mum chronicling the antics of her kids and her household. She is pretty funny.

She appears to have a penchant for Rap Songs in her videos and the one below is no exception. A bit of fun messing up your own house in lockdown and acting like a rebellious teenager to the rap song Interior Crocodile Alligator by King Chip then escaping the house so no one knows who made the mess.

I'd say that many of these videos get overlooked because they are small accounts (overtime being the exception) and Tik Tok is jammed pack with so many videos, it's easy to miss some really great and entertaining videos.

People are also drawn to their personal likes and will watch videos that are part of their interest category so the likelihood of missing great videos outside of our personal likes is real.

I really enjoyed watching these Tik Tok videos and researching what else is on Tik Tok. Makes living though a Pandemic a whole lot more bearable. Hope you enjoyed these videos as much as I do.
