A sunflower death bunker ablaze. Ella Fitzgerald blaring in every room. It’s Walter versus Madeleine.
It’s the final countdown! This has been such a stellar book to read. I mean the mix of personalities in the variety of characters that we’ve met have been a true delight to get to know. Some left us way too soon, or left when we didn’t want them to cough the twins cough, and it has all been leading up to this final confrontation with Madeleine. I’ve been so gosh darn impressed with the way that this has been written and how we see the events playing out not to mention how we’ve seen the characters grow and evolve over the course of these six issues.
I’ve been so wrapped up in this story and these characters and that’s a huge testament to these blokes talent and what they bring to the table. It is easy to become invested and engaged in their lives in the short amount of time that we’ve had the pleasure to see them and Walter especially with his dementia or Alzheimer's that only seems to be manageable through music really makes him so incredibly endearing and much like a beloved grandfather figure.
I’m a huge fan of the way that this is being told. The story & plot development that we see through how the sequence of events unfold as how the reader learns information are presented exceptionally well. The character development that we see through the narration, the dialogue, the character interaction as well as how we see them act and react to the situations and circumstances which they encounter does an utterly marvellous job with their personalities. The pacing is excellent and as it takes us through the pages revealing the story we’re on the edge of our seats waiting with baited breath for the final outcome.
I’m loving the way that this is being structured and how we see the layers within the story continue to emerge, grow, evolve and strengthen. I am also liking the way we see the layers open up new avenues to be explored and yes while this is the last issue that doesn’t mean the story is completely over. What this does is add so much depth, dimension and complexity to the story. How we see everything working together to create the story’s ebb & flow as well as how it moves the story forward are impeccably handled.
The interiors here are fantastic! Would I like to see backgrounds utilised throughout like we see from the letters onward, yes but hey what we see enhances and expands the moments. They also work within the composition of the panels to bring out the depth perception, sense of scale and the overall sense of size and scope of the story. I do like the classic comics style of the artwork and how it can showcase the violence without all the gore. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show a remarkably talented eye for storytelling. How we see the hues and tones within the colours being utilised to create the shading, highlights and shadow work shows a stellar understanding of how colour works.
Innovative, fresh, different, endearing and just plain old charming aren’t really words you would normally associate with a book full of serial killers but that’s what I am saying. To see Vic and Dennis play their roles in all this was fantastic but to have the focus on Walter and his friends was the best treat I could have hoped for. With some fresh, fun and shocking moments thanks the writing and some sensational characterisation along with these great interiors this has makes me incredibly happy.

Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller
Perhaps one of the best known modern plays in all of 20th century theatre, ‘Death of a Salesman’ is a 1949 play written by Arthur Miller. Set in Brooklyn, it takes place over two acts and portrays the tragedy of the Loman household - specifically that of protagonist Willy Loman. It deals with the crushing of the American Dream and forces the audience to confront the harsh truth about what America has become. It ended up winning the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play and as it is revived many times we in literature and drama hope it can continue its influence for years to come.

Death is a black hole. Think about it. A black hole is the corpse of a star, something once warm and bright, now come to the end of its life cycle. But some will argue that the cycle of life does not end with death. That death is merely another path we must walk once our bodies expire and our souls ascend. In that moment, when the fuel in the star’s chemical tank hits empty and the shiny matte coat explodes into supernova, the mass left behind – the corpse – becomes a black hole. We understand that, around such a vast cadaver, dimensions work a little differently in death to the way we’re used to in life. For example, light cannot escape the pull of a black hole when it hits the point of no return. That’s where it gets its colour. Space itself is contorted by a black hole. That’s where it gets its funny shape. Even time. Time slows right down the closer you get to it. The closer you get to a black hole. The closer you get to death.
