'General Hospital' fans take cyberbullying to a whole new level

Actors on the ABC daytime drama continue to be attacked by those who cannot separate entertainment from reality.

General Hospital is a daytime drama and meant to be a form of entertainment. For at least the past year, however, disgruntled fans have taken certain things personally related to the show. They hide behind their computer or telephone screens to say pretty mean things to those who are a part of the cast of the ABC soap. One example is Kelly Thiebaud who portrays Britt Westbourne and who was ripped to shreds simply because she wore her hair in bangs during the COVID lockdown.

Whata right did anyone have to disrespect her that way. How would these same people feel if someone did the same to them or a loved on? GH viewers also criticized Chad Duell, (Michael Corinthos) because he styled his hair in a different manner during the coronavirus lockdown. Kelly Monaco, (Sam McCall) has had to defend herself online from those who were brutal in their comments about pictures she shared on Instagram. Some also attacked Monaco in regard to her television character. Now Dominic Zampragna has been added to the list just because he liked a JaSam tweet.

A Twitter war erupted because fans of Jason and Sam were sharing their disappointment that the storyline was now pairing her with Dante, Someone who obviously would prefer Sam back with Jason gave a nasty reply and things went from there. Zampragna apologized and said he did not intend for things to get out of hand but there really is nothing he can do. People are showing who they really are on social media and many times it is not very nice.

I have witnessed soap fans of General Hospital and other daytime shows saying some pretty brutal things about the characters and or their portrayers online. I am certain they would not say these things in person. I personally have been attacked in posts that were not popular and even had people send me nasty Facebook inbox messages because they did not agree with a story, or they found a type o. I'm human and every error may not be caught. The General Hospital cast are also human so please remember they are just doing a job and that they have feelings.

The intention of a post or comment online can go astray and take on a life of it's own when just one person responds and shifts focus away from the original intent. On Facebook people often respond to posts and the author will reply with "That's not what I said, or"that not what I meant." Dominic Zampragna certainly has a right, just as we all do to like any Tweet or other social media post he chooses. He also is an actor who is playing a role and should not be attacked because of what the writers have given him to do.

For every JaSAam fan is someone else who believes the duo's season is up and that they should move on. Some viewers believe the couple lost the magic with all the changes related to Patient 6, Drew Cain, and the fact that Jason is Sonny's enforcer. When Sam went to jail and was told not to have contact with her estranged spouse, this was a breaking point for many viewers. Those who desire to see Sam and Dante together must remember that Lulu is still alive and could wake up from her coma at any moment.

General Hospital fans who are enjoying Jason with Britt might have a longer run if these two really do get together. On Thursday Sam emphasized to Jason that she had to put Danny and Scout first. As long as Mr. Morgan remains in his chosen profession things will never be the same with them. There are also viewers who prefer that Scott and Liesl did not get physical but they have.

Many fans think the couple is cute so lets hope the nay sayers don't begin bulling these veteran actors. Both are over age 60 and there was a time when you were taught not to disrespect your elders. The Internet has changed all that but please have a heart and just enjoy these two for as long as they last.

Whatever happens with these couples, those who watch General Hospital should stop acting like grade school bullies and attacking the actors. If you are over 18 you should behave as a mature adult. The writers are never going to be able to please all the viewers all the time but if you don't agree please express it in the same manner you would have others address you.

Decades ago actors and their fans were worlds apart and there were people hired to handle fan mail. Many times letters from disgruntled fans were tossed out and never made it into the hands of the celebrities. The Internet makes everything up close and personal and it's a shame it is bringing out the worst in some people. Best of luck to Dominic Zampragna., Steve Burton, Kelly Thiebaud, and Kelly Monaco no matter what direction the writers take your storylines. You guys are doing a great job and there are more who support you than there are those who do not.
