From “Hello there!” to “These aren’t the droids you’re looking for”, Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of the most quotable characters in the Star Wars cinematic universe.

Whether it is Sir Alec Guinness in the Star Wars Original Trilogy (1977-1983) or Ewan McGregor in the Prequel Trilogy (1999-2005), the legendary Jedi has always impressed with his wry wit and Forceful (pun intended) assertions.

It is thus no surprise when the Disney+ limited series Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022) became an instant hit. With McGregor reprising his role as the Star Wars icon, it was the streaming platform’s most-watched new series ever globally when it premiered in May 2022.

Set 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (2005), the six-part series follows a world-weary Kenobi living in secret in Tatooine, whilst watching over a 10-year-old Luke Skywalker (Grant Feely) from afar. He is jolted to action when Princess Leia Organa (Vivien Lyra Blair) is kidnapped, which ultimately reunites him with former Padawan-turned-Sith Lord, Darth Vader a.k.a Anakin Skywalker (voiced by James Earl Jones and played by Hayden Christensen, both reprising their OT and PT roles respectively).

An entertaining Star Wars series that adds intriguing backstory elements to beloved OT and PT characters and fan favorites, as well as introduces fascinating new characters, Obi-Wan Kenobi also succeeds in providing more memorable quotes from the titular Jedi Master, his adversaries and acquaintances.

In no order of merit, here’s 20 of the best quotes from Obi-Wan Kenobi.

(Warning: SPOILERS ahead, there will be.)

20 Best Quotes From ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Season 1

Kenobi & The Former Apprentice

1. “I am what you made me.”

—Darth Vader to Obi-Wan Kenobi, when the latter asked what he has become when they finally meet again in the mining planet Mapuzo in Season 1 Episode 3, “Part III”.

2. “You should’ve kill me when you had the chance.

—Darth Vader to Obi-Wan, reminding his former Master that he should not have left him alive when they last fought in Revenge of the Sith in Season 1 Episode 3.

3. “A Jedi’s goal is to defend life, not take it.”

—Obi-Wan to Anakin Skywalker, during a flashback to their time in the capital planet Coruscant when his then-Padawan gets a tad too aggressive during a sparring session in Season 1 Episode 4, “Part IV”.

4. “Fail me and you will not live to regret it.”

—Darth Vader to Third Sister Reva (Moses Ingram), reminding the Inquisitor that he has no qualms of exterminating her if she fails to deliver Kenobi to him in Season 1 Episode 3.

5. “You are a great warrior, Anakin. But your need to prove yourself is your undoing. Until you overcome it, a Padawan you still be.”

—Obi-Wan to Anakin again, in the flashback sparring session after defeating his frustrated apprentice in Season 1 Episode 4.

6. “I will do what I must.”

—Obi-Wan to Darth Vader, after the latter asks if his former Master intends to destroy him on a desolate moon in Season 1 Episode 6, “Part VI”. It is an echo of what Obi-Wan said to Anakin before their pivotal duel in Revenge of the Sith.

7. “I am not your failure, Obi-Wan. You didn’t kill Anakin Skywalker. I did.”

—Darth Vader to Obi-Wan, after a devastated Kenobi apologizes "for all of it" upon seeing Anakin's badly-scarred face in Season 1 Episode 6.

8. “Then my friend is truly dead… Goodbye Darth.”

—Obi-Wan to Darth Vader, after the latter asserts he will destroy Kenobi the same way he "killed" Anakin Skywalker in the season finale. This quote helps explain why Obi-Wan calls Vader “Darth” when they meet in 1977’s Star Wars: A New Hope.

Kenobi & The Little Princess

9. “I’d rather be digested by a jakobeast.”

—Princess Leia to her mother Queen Breha Organa (Simone Kresell) in Alderaan, when the latter insisted that the 10-year-old apologizes to her cousin whom she insulted in Season 1 Episode 1, “Part I”.

10. “I wish I could say I was, but no, I’m not.”

—Obi-Wan to Leia, when the princess asked if he was her real father when they were in Mapuzo in Season 1 Episode 3. Some fans who ship Kenobi with Leia’s mother, Padme Amidala, claimed that the quote confirms that the Jedi did have feelings for the former queen and senator of Naboo. But no, don't think that was what he meant...

11. “Princess Leia Organa. You are wise, discerning and kind-hearted. These are the qualities that came from your mother. But you’re also passionate, fearless and forthright. And these are the gifts from your father. Both are exceptional people who bore an exceptional daughter.”

—Obi-Wan to Leia, after confessing that he had lied about not knowing her real parents in Season 1 Episode 6.

12. “Will I ever see you again?”

—Leia to Obi-Wan, as the Jedi is about to leave for Tatooine in the season finale. The line was delivered in the same emotional tone as young Anakin (Jake Lloyd) did when he asked his mother Shmi Skywalker (Pernilla August) the same question in 1999’s Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.

Kenobi & New Acquaintances

13. “You’re not serving him… You are hunting him.”

—Obi-Wan to Third Sister Reva, when he realizes the Inquisitor-cum-former-Youngling’s real intention in bringing the Jedi to Darth Vader is so that she can get close to the Dark Lord and assassinate him in Season 1 Episode 4.

14. “No one leaves this place. I was someone’s daughter once too.”

—Tetha Grig to Obi-Wan, when the latter says he was looking for his daughter in the seedy city planet Daiyu in Season 1 Episode 2, “Part II”. This was an inside joke as the spice runner is played by Ewan McGregor’s real life daughter, Esther-Rose McGregor.

15. “So judgemental!”

—Haju Estree (Kumail Nanjiani) to Obi-Wan, when the latter calls the unscrupulous Jedi impersonator “a rat who preys on weakness” and yet who undoubtedly will know much about sewers in Season 1 Episode 2.

16. “This place isn’t a fortress. It’s a tomb.”

—Obi-Wan to Tala Durith (Indira Varma), as he discovers to his horror preserved corpses of Jedi including a Youngling in a trophy vault within Fortress Inquisitorius in Season 1 Episode 4.

Kenobi & Tatooine Ties

17. “Like you trained his father?”

—Owen Lars (Joel Edgerton, reprising his role) to Obi-Wan, reminding the latter that his last Padawan became a Sith Lord when the Jedi was adamant young Luke Skywalker need to be trained “when the time comes” in Season 1 Episode 1. Many humorous memes were created as fans rephrased Owen’s quote to roast other Star Wars characters in various scenarios.

18. “We’re enough. You and me.”

—Beru Lars (Bonnie Piesse, reprising her role) to Owen Lars, insisting that she and her husband will be enough to protect Luke at their Tatooine homestead from a rampaging Reva in Season 1 Episode 6.

19. “Hello there.”

—Obi-Wan to Luke, after Owen finally allows “Ben” to meet Anakin's son in the season finale. The phrase was first uttered by Guinness in A New Hope and then by McGregor in Revenge of the Sith before becoming a very popular meme. It was practically the last line in the series before Kenobi fans get to hear the classic greeting delivered with aplomb once again.

20. “Well, it took you long enough… I was always here, Obi-Wan. You were just not ready to see.”

—Force Ghost of Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson, reprising his role) to Obi-Wan, after the latter expressed surprise in finally seeing his Master after years of trying to reach out to him via the Force in the season finale.
