I'm a huge fan of books and I love buying lots of them, both new and old. There are so many books out there and some can be hard to get hold of but others you know the moment you turn the page. That's why this list is based on sales - which means it must be accurate! And if you haven't read any of these books, give them a go - you might like them just as much as I did (or at least I hope so).

The Hobbit

The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien

The Hobbit is a children's fantasy novel, written by J. R. R. Tolkien and published on 21 September 1937 in the United Kingdom by George Allen & Unwin and on 19 March 1938 in the United States by George H. Doran, Inc., as volume one of The Lord of the Rings (in which it was subtitled "The First Part"). It tells how Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit, has adventures with his companions Thorin and Company in a quest to regain their treasure from the dragon Smaug and escape the wrath of the Dragon King, who has captured them all.

The Hobbit received mixed reviews at its publication; many criticised Tolkien's use of both humour and darker themes for children, but others praised its imagination and style. The book has sold over 100 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling books of all time and establishing it as one of the world's most popular sagas.

The Alchemist

Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist is a book that has sold more than 80 million copies worldwide, making it one of the bestselling books of all time. The story is about Santiago, a shepherd boy who travels from Spain to Egypt in search of a treasure. Along the way, he finds himself in many adventures and learns many lessons.

The Alchemist is written in Spanish and translated into English by Maria Elvira Pinto for Penguin Classics. It was published in 1988 and since then has been translated into 50 languages.

The Alchemist tells us about three main characters: Santiago, his son Melchizedek and his daughter-in-law Maria Clara. They are all different though they have one thing in common: each of them searches for happiness but only one can find it.

The story begins when Santiago wants to become rich so he can provide his family with a better life; however before he can achieve his goal he must go through many adventures and meet many people who teach him important lessons that will help him along the way.

One of these lessons is that there are two kinds of riches: material riches and spiritual riches; both are important but they cannot be compared because they come from different places. Another lesson is that there are two kinds of dangers:

The Little Prince

The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry is a collection of letters from the pilot to his young friend, who he found on a desert island. The book is one of the best selling books of all time, and it made its author into a household name.

The book was first published in 1943, but it wasn't until after World War II that it became a hit. The story follows the relationship between an aviator and his young friend as they fly together over some of the most beautiful places on Earth. It's about how humans can be selfish and cruel or kind and generous; how we are always changing and how important it is to look beyond our own needs and what we want out of life.

The book has been translated into over 200 languages, with more than 150 million copies sold worldwide since its publication in 1943. It was adapted into a movie in 1959 starring Albert Finney as Pilote, Jean-Pierre Leaud as Asterix, Jeanne Moreau as Rose et Laurence Olivier as Berenice (also known as Madame).
