Authors note: This follows "The Soldier and The Slave" The visit to the surgeon had proceeded without anymore interruptions, Fyra's curiosity about the boy leading her dulled by their small exchange. She had been piqued by his attempt to protect her, which to her knowledge was uncommon among the humans when it came to preventing violence against her people, but his response had been all that she should have expected. He was slightly above average in intelligence for a human, enough to know to protect his own from trouble.

The Dreamscape
I didn't want to enter her dreams because children's dreams are difficult and wild. Truly, I feared more than that. I had nightmares. Me! I hadn't had any for years. Now, every time I closed my eyes, I dreamed I am a cat-shape, silky and pale. I find the girl in the dreamscape. She clutches me.
