On the Wrong Track
It’s the rocking sensation, ceaseless, that wakes me. Groggy, I wonder if I’m still drunk. I shift my weight, trying to get comfortable enough to finish sleeping it off. The slip under my vintage dress sticks to my sweaty legs. I’m not in my own bed, not even undressed. Oh my God, did I pass out at my own party?

Impaling Time
Impaling Time by Sarah Wylde A jolt and a clickety clack of a train awakens a man from what seems to be a deep sleep, but that isn’t the case. Everything around him is unfamiliar including the clothing the people wear and yet; he is wearing the same kind of haberdashery as the men in the club car.

Hazy Fantasy of the Man
Earl Robinson woke up, groggy. He didn't know how long he'd been asleep, but he was having one crazy dream. In the dream, he was in a car. No. Not a car. Was it a plane? A train? He had no memory of where he was in the dream, but he knew he was in some mode of transportation that was moving fast.

A Ride To Some-Where
The clickity, clickity, clack sound, rattled his subconscious but the rider fought it, all he wanted to do was just go back to his comfortable sleep. Though the constant shaking, rattling, and now the rolling from side to side made that impossible.

Turbulence
2021, the year of the atomic bomb, at least that’s what I've seen on old newspapers. The year the earth experienced waves of radiation and death. I think I was born that year, but my childhood is a blur at best. I live alone now, but in the blur of my childhood I seem to remember two kind faces. Maybe they’re my parents, maybe it’s a dream. I try not to think about it though. The most company I’ve had in the years I do remember are cockroaches and the copious amount of books in my home. I often ask myself why there are so many books but just me to read them. I walk to the library in my house now, running my fingers along the cracked wallpapered walls. Everything in my house always seemed a little off, like the cracked wallpaper, or the leaky faucets, or the Turbulence.

Stakes Crosses and Holy Water
I look around knowing that this may be the last time I see my family. I turn sixteen today and tomorrow I'll be shipped off to training. It's becoming a dangerous world out there, vampires have made their presence known and now humans are the ones being hunted to extinction. It's the year 2054 and fewer than 400,000 humans are alive. Still, we're not a race to go down without a fight. Most of us live in the more Western states because of the sun. My family and I are in Texas. But there’s no sun at night and vampires take advantage of that.

The Donkey Tree
The crack of the M-80 rang out and echoed off the damp walls before drowning in the murky creek below. Minnows darted about frantically, from both the explosions and also to avoid the claws of the backward-swimming crawdads looking for a meal. To James and Peter, this damp, hidden world under the bridge was the best place to light off firecrackers in town.
