Words To Die By
Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. Jennings grunted sourly, staring at the poster beside the airlock door, and reread the words yet again. The poster was the only thing decorating the bare 20’ X 20’ airlock used to execute prisoners. “The warden was truly a twisted bitch,” he thought. She had even pasted one of those ‘have a nice day’ yellow smiley faces beside the word scream. Jennings waited for death. It was close now. Any moment the airlock door would open, and he would be ejected into space. Three years he had spent on Kranock 9, this death row prison, convicted for the murder of his wife. Thirty-six agonizing months waiting for all his legal appeals to fail, and lead him to this moment. His wife was dead, murdered, and he had been blamed for it. It didn’t matter that he was innocent, that the frame job was perfect, the judge and system corrupt. All that mattered was his joy, his life and his future, had been snuffed out in an instant.

Invoking Dust
Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. None can give me the time, how long I'll be trapped until this ends. Running, hiding, crawling behind the chimera... radiation always on our mind. I see it on their faces... I know mine must show the same fear.

Fish Bowl
Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. Then again, if your comms are short circuited and your helmet is filling up with water, that’s exactly what happens—no screams. If American astronaut Hayden Hoff had tilted his head just a bit forward, he’d be submerged like a goldfish in a bowl.

Shift
Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. I hear it though, clear as day. The cacophonic roar erupts soundlessly, mentally, driving me from slumber to crystal clear awakening. The sound and the images are spaced by mere seconds. First, the image of people in cages followed by an explosion of blood-red haze amongst the stars. The screams come next; like a video stream out of sync with audio. The screams begin as a multitude of whimpers, then escalate into a crescendo of wails that’s abruptly extinguished.

A Universe of Doubt
Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. They say a lot of things, but they hadn’t been a part of the universe when it began. If they had they would be shocked by the sad state of things now. Although, I think they sense it.

No Escape
Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. Everytime I close my eyes or fall asleep, the last moments of my fathers life flashes in the darkness, reminding me of the cold and empty stretch of space where they murdered him in the name of justice. Some call him a hero, and others call him a villain. To me, it never really mattered whether he was or not. He saved my life when everyone else thought I’d die. So in the end I guess you’d say it was my fault that the only person who ever loved or understood me was gone.

The New Crop
"Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say," Kevin said as he stared at the milky way. Tara glared at him. "And that's one of the many reasons I'm not going. Please, can't we just lay here and enjoy this beautiful night together?" She refilled their wine glasses.

The Bohemia Incident
THE BOHEMIA INCIDENT Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. However, no one thinks they’ll ever find out, least of all the two men sharing a yawning porthole more ample than the dimensions of the narrow room should allow. The tranquility and grace of the starry Van Gogh depths of space beyond that luxurious window contrasts the utilitarian canisters and supplies that crowd the hemming shelves in drab hues as equally reminiscent of a penal facility. Facing knees to knees in bleak uniforms consistent with the setting, the two men wait on the upload that will dictate the tedium of their shift. Embroidered badges on the shoulder of their sleeves display the BluLinque emblem encircled with DELV Bohemia 42 while similar threadwork on the left breast of their uniforms reveal their station and individual designations.

Mission One
Chapter 1: Jasmine & Cedar Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. But I did. I do. All the time. The screaming never stops. When I adjust my focus, the muted screaming still fills the background noise to my thoughts, a constant reminder of a choice.
