Tethered
Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. That was before the “Eclipse”; the single most terrifying and transformative event in our known universe. The mass destruction from earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tidal waves happening all at once. The near extinction of every animal on Earth. The sudden chaos of every human being ripped from the very spot in which they were standing on. The collective screams of over 6 billion men, women and children as they ascended into the heavens never to be seen again. The day the Earth let go.

“Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say,” spoke the man in front of a thick glass window. He spoke calmly into a microphone with his hands behind his back, watching the man inside the tank. “And yet, here you are, screaming as loud as you can as if the frequency of your cries will halt your redemption.”

‘Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. Fat load of good that did for these poor souls’ I think to myself. The grandeur of this space station was now lost. For all of its luxuries, it had become nothing more than a mausoleum. Some unknown force had reduced this place to a smoldering husk of its former magnificence. As my co-pilot manoeuvres around a chunk of floating debris the size of a car, he lets out a low, long whistle. And I don’t blame him.

Prelude to Oblivion
Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. I am here to tell you that I believe you can. Well, some of us can. It’s all a bit complicated, and I am still sorting through the details. The “details”?? Hmmm… maybe the answer is in the details. What are the details, I wondered? And then I realized I can’t remember… ANYTHING. Not only are details fuzzy, but everything is fuzzy.

The Swamps
“Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say.” It’s a line travelers use to make themselves feel daring, a ghost story to frighten neighbors already too fearful to venture off their home planets. But for those that dwell in the vacuum itself, adrift in the vastness, the question of who can hear us bears little relevance. We know better than to think that anyone is listening.
