Every morning in which Jake awoke, he lost his memory from the day before. The only time in which this did not occur was on New Year's Day. That fact alone was the reason why he used that day to write an entire journal of what he wished to accomplish that year.

I am happy, I think. I live in a beautiful land surrounded by loved ones. People marvel at me. I provide shelter for many animals. And best of all, I get to watch the city below and over the hill every day with my loved ones. I have often thought about how it would feel to live in the city. What sorts of people and animals live there? What do they do in those strange things called...cars?...I think? And how do they travel in something that can fly like a bird?

Perhaps they got it from butterflies. This idea that hope could still exist, even after you've been convincing yourself that it doesn't. I hadn't believed in it, and I didn't want anyone to try to convince me otherwise. I cut myself off from people, stopped finding joy in the activities I used to like, and just existed in a useless cycle of days.

Two households, both alike in dignity. Two warring households that maybe represent our divisions today. Everyone wants to be loved in their own way; but differences need not matter more. The world is filled with Montagues and Capulets. Shakespeare seemed to have wanted us all to be Romeos or Juliets.
