1 Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. His ship hovered on the edges of the planet’s outer atmosphere. Her screams were inside his head and in his heart and they tore at the foundation of his soul. They were as real as if someone in the same cockpit had uttered them. He could not fathom where they had come from. Jayson had just left the home planet of the emperor of earth. He watched in horror as the young woman said yes to the beast, inside his head she was screaming to be free. Was this his imagination? Was she really calling to him? He wondered now what to do. No one in their right mind would go against the emperor.
Chapter One The humming noise began to become clearer; it was a clicking noise far away, and the floor seemed to vibrate. ‘Why am I on the floor?’ Elizabeth asked herself. Her head ached, she decided, it pounded in rhythm with her heart. She wanted to open her eyes, but they weren’t responding, it was like they were glued shut. She tried to suck in a breath of air but found that impossible also, something was covering her face, a mask, a hard plastic mask. She remembered now, just a flash, others screaming as the masks were pulled down, soft, hot, burning and molded to a face. They left a small hole where her mouth should be. To keep the captive alive, alive long enough to suffer the end of the sentence.
Summer Indulgence So, the question asked is what a favorite summer indulgence is. Most often I would think of Fourth of July BBQ, that is my first reaction, but then it has been years since I have had one of those. Living in Florida it is watermelon season, and actually all melons and a giant bowl of mixed melon is almost as good as ice cold watermelon with juice running off your elbows and participating in seed spitting contests. This would have been my answer of my favorite as a kid.
You are the Intruder
‘There weren’t always dragons in this valley,’ the young man said to himself. ‘They are being forced to survive anywhere they can. Man had stepped in and consumed the planet. Leaving great swatches of bog behind them as they raped the land and sucked all the resources out. They never gave a second thought to what might live here. If I can find evidence that the creatures can survive and even restore the land that was destroyed, maybe the high counsel will allow part of the great planet to remain untouched.’ It will certainly take centuries to restore the entire world, he knew that, but Kirstin knew things others didn’t know and one thing he knew was that the dragons could restore a plot of land. It had to be them, he only needed to see it and record it and surely, they would have to listen to him
“There weren’t always dragons in this valley,” YaYa said softly, “and now we must find a way to prevent them from being extinguished. The older woman was small and yet still very agile. She slipped through the small stand of trees following the sounds and the cry of pain from the great beast that the men had shot down. Her pain was immense pain, a feeling that she shared with YaYa and even with the young girl trailing behind.
“There weren’t always dragons in this valley.” Jackie said to herself, “Not until those crazy scientists started re-creating them.” She added under her breath. She inched closer to the ledge, the dragons were breeding now, and Janos said there was a nest up here. “I didn’t believe it until I saw that monstrosity fly in. What kind of DNA had they used anyway?” She had heard that once they dug up a cache of dinosaur bodies that had been in a deep freeze for a millennium, they had to mess around and try re-making them, Janos said they mixed dinosaur, crocodile, and frog DNA and then added eagles to the mix to get wings. ‘Who in their right mind thought making a dragon was a good idea?’
When a Dragon Weeps
“There weren’t always dragons in the valley,” Sarah said to herself as she stared at the huge claws in front of her. “Now I guess I get to be eaten instead of beaten.” She heard cursing behind her, Doug had stopped chasing and tried to back pedal from the creature in front of the one he was after.
Dragon Rider Betrayed
“There weren’t always dragons in the valley.” Liam muttered, “There weren’t any in this region until Malek brought them here. These beautiful creatures became tools of war. War between power hungry kings, war that made nothing better, only more death and more heartache. “Why can’t they see what is happening? Why are we always being ruled by one ruthless maniac after another? Everyone outside the palaces struggle just to feed their families while those inside wallow in their luxury and greed.”
“There weren’t always dragons in the valley?” Richard growled, mostly to himself. “Hey, you little snit, stop popping me with those, those, whatever you are shooting at me!” He once more smacked at the smoldering ember on his pantleg where the tiny dragon had shot a smoking something at him. He hoped it wasn’t dragon snot. “Hey” he dodged another one and shook his fist at the creature. “What are you following me for? Obviously, I can’t give you whatever you want, HEY,” He cried out as another tiny fireball shot at him.”
Dare to Love a Dragon
"There weren’t always dragons in the valley?” The young girl asked the man she was following. Since the path was easy to follow, Freesia had fallen behind instead of leading, Tyson had three time the stride. She was almost elf size and sometimes was not taken seriously. Tyson on the other hand, he was never one to toss a person aside simply because of one’s status or stature, and this child he saw as his own, she would never lead him on with a false claim. She also knew how important finding this egg might be for him.
