Gambit of Eldargarrd. Honorable Mention in Mismatch Challenge.
Hypnotic sounds of trilling insects rose and crashed like ocean waves, unseen in the dense fog of Forbudt Mørkskov. Pinpricks of brilliant yellow light flashed. Randomly at first, then slowly synchronized as the Ildflue started their mating ritual. Cracking timber echoed off the valley walls in attempts to betray that which would stalk unwelcome visitors. Oskar Kætter and his boy, Magnus, were those unwelcome visitors.

A Dragon Dilemma
Light fell in slanted pools around the base of the ancient oak tree. Its gnarled roots spread across the mossy clearing, and all the young saplings kept a respectful distance, bowing their heads as a slight breeze rippled through them. The oak had been there long before the forest that surrounded it. Sigils were carved deep in its bark, their meanings long since lost to time.

The field of offerings
Chapter 1 The toddler cried in terror as he was being carried over the river. The sorceress was humming spells that only practitioners of the magic wonder would understand. The water was swirling around them as they crossed and she held a firm grip around the boy. The wind picked up. A small tornado formed around the two. She kept moving. The servants behind them were used to seeing magic, but never like this before. Nature was alive. The elements were dancing. Singing. Spellbound from what they saw, they missed that something big was approaching from the distance.

Line of Ends
It isn't a tale so hard to tell, and yet, it is a tale so unbearably rough to listen to. It starts akin to a tragedy, finding oneself burdened but somehow... you don't feel what that burden should be. Because even a burden can be joyful! In a time when most would think something like this couldn't happen, it still does. Abandonment. An infant alone in the streets, wailing for the care that should be provided, and yet no one comes. No one wants the poor little baby, because no one desires to take on that burden, despite that their lives could change forever, for good or for ill. Perhaps even both? That is, of course, until the old one came.

Lesson of the Iguana
Half asleep high on the glittering granite outcrop, the Giant Iguana surveyed its’ territory. An obsessiveness stirred in her. In her two hundred years of life this place had been whittled down from tens of thousands of acres to this 80-acre picnic reserve and forest over which she presided with intent. It was just after first light, and as the sun’s rays rested on this spot for around an hour for most of the warm seasons she could beat the picnickers by a few hours. It was the sunny days in winter that had provided the past encounters she’d had with the occupants of Boclyde and Industria, because in Winter she sometimes needed to sun herself late into the morning. Her favourite spot overlooked the river of moss green water that cut a wide swathe between Boclyde and Industria.
