Melodic Memories
I stepped off the school bus and into the chilly December air. Shivering, I trudged up the driveway, the loose gravel crunching beneath my feet. As I opened the front door, I was greeted with a preternatural silence that stopped me in my tracks. Listening for a moment, I entered the house and crept into the kitchen. There, I saw my parents silently slumped over steaming mugs of tea at the table. My father raised his head and gave me a weak smile, while my mother did not move. I was only eleven, but I was smart enough to know: someone had died.

Contemplating the Cold and Kind
The bell rang on the second day of senior year. I walked gingerly into my old homeroom, stopping in front of the teacher as the rest of the room filed in. She looked up at me and smiled. "Ah, I was wondering where you were."

An Autumn Night
Linore bounded through the shadowed recesses of the aquarium, carving a path through the crowd. She stumbled to a stop and found herself standing in front of a large, curved tank. Her eyes trailed up its glistening surface, taking in the vast array of colors splashed throughout the sparkling blue water. In it was a massive live coral reef that stretched past the ceiling of the room. She tried to follow the structure to the top of the tank with her eyes, but they failed her and she could only see it towering above her before continuing in a blur into the distance.

Xylon
The rays of the morning sun streamed through the canopy of the Telora forest, bathing the forest floor in dappled beams of light. Through the speckled patches of light, a lone toddler made his way through the underbrush, babbling happily and oblivious to any impending danger. His laughter reverberated throughout the forest causing several animals to retreat into the comfort and safety of their dens. One creature, however, stirred from his morning respite; a trace of curiosity flickering within him.
