Cost of an owlet

News anchor “Good morning Queenboro city, it's seven thirty in the morning, with a mix of sun and clouds. We have no updates about the search for the missing forest four. Law enforcement, parents and volunteers are still working hard to locate the missing students.”

At 3:15pm, almost everyday after school, the right mix of first time offenders and school lawbreakers made their way to room 302 for detention. Once again, the air conditioner in the room broke down and Miss Cera couldn’t handle the heat anymore while complaining that her makeup was melting. She stormed off and shouted that she would be back in a few in hopes of grabbing her fan from her classroom. Typical of her, the woman was a divine beauty with high maintenance. She adored getting compliments to the point that she would chase students down about their attendance so she could get a compliment or two on the way she looked. She would sometimes get so distracted by the compliments that she would forget why she came to see the students in the first place. Eventually, the principal caught on, so he decided to gather all the students to inform them on their hours of detention while calling their parents. Meanwhile, Dester notices Miss Cera’s absence and takes advantage to hand out this years’ first tour flyers. Fearful that the students would partake in such a dangerous activity, the principal advised everyone to avoid promoting it, and asked the school’s secretary to send out emails to the parents warning them about this matter. However, Dester was fixated on being the source of entertainment for his classroom. Caught in the midst of distribution, Miss Cera and Dester look down at the flyers in his hand. Without debate or hesitation, Dester sat back down and joined the rest in what felt like hell. “Paying forty five bucks to tour a tree forest just doesn't sit well with me” said Kirk. Although he's always been frugal, he had a point. The rest of the football team agreed with kirk. “It’s not like you would buy your own ticket'' responded Anna, Kirk’s twin sister. Kirk was known for having the ladies pay for his expenses. The two were opposites, far from being twin flames. While Kirk is the trouble maker, Anna is an outstanding student, amazing daughter and empathetic friend. The reasoning behind her accumulated detention hours are for

always backing her best friend Zahra in arguments with their math teacher, M. Fowzi. Dester made his way to the back of the classroom towards Kirk, Anna and Zahra to suggest that he knew a way that they could all get their money back and make more. No doubt that he had Kirk's attention, Zahra seemed a little intrigued by the idea and Anna wanted no parts at all. Anything Dester proposed meant trouble. He explained that the tour guide is a friend of his and that he would let them ditch the tour to play a game in the haunted house up the hill. Dester then mentions a twenty thousand dollars cash reward prize if the games was completed successfully. At that moment he had won over all three and coordinated a meeting before attending the tour. Check point at six thirty, all four met in front of the queensbridge graveyard, right on time as planned. Dester had the wristbands for the haunted house from his tour guide friend, just like he said he would. A loud bell sound went off, and at the same time, a creepy man popped up from behind them, shouting, “Let the tour begin!” in a raspy voice. Moments go by, the rest of the group, too busy focused on being terrified of the woods, get away to make their way to the creepy house on the hill. Headed towards the door, Zahra gently knocks on the door a few times. After some time, anxiously standing there, Anna pushes the door open and they would let themselves in. Barely in the lobby, they are greeted by a big sign with rules to the game. Right under, you can see an arrow pointing down to the red bucket for phones and purses. Kirk picks up what looks like the map they’ll be needing to navigate through the house. “So, your tour guide friend didn't say anything to you before giving you the wrist bands to an empty house?” Kirk asked. “Yeah!, who is supposed to meet us here with the twenty thousand dollars, Dester?” Zahra asks, calling Dester out. “All he said is for every broken rule, there will be a price to pay” said Dester, calmly. Anna stands in the back, pointing her bright flashlight towards the ceiling. Before Kirk could even warn Anna about her flashlight breaking one of the rules, Dester was already being pulled by the shadow down the hall and disappeared into thin air. Zahra is struck in terror as she is ready to run out the door. Anna being hysterical in a corner devastated about what had just happened to Dester. Kirk finally asks them both to get it together

as he reassures them that they will head back home as soon as they find Dester. On their way down the stairs, heading to the lobby, they notice something is covered in a silk pad, just like the protective coverings you see on a cocoon. They look up and see Dester covered in a cocoon like a spider's next meal behind an enormous shiny white barn owl. Zahra reaches for her purse in the bucket not too far from the large owl and tries to throw it at the owl. The bird waves its left wing at zahra which sends her flying into the wall. The large owl directs its attention towards Kirk before flying towards him. Anna quickly grabs her flashlight and pitches it at the owl's head causing the owl to go flying and screeching out of the house. Kirk and Anna help Zahra pull together. All three of them help pull Dester down. Quickly trying to escape the house, they get pulled right back in at their feet by an invisible force. Attempt to escape again and again.
