What to eat in Ottawa, Ontario
Here are some of the places that are worth checking out.
There is a vast amount of restaurants still open in Ottawa, Ontario however they need your business now more than ever. With the pandemic hitting this city, I have noticed a lot of stores, namely restaurants that have been closing down. If you're a resident of Ottawa or just visiting these are the restaurants I'd suggest to you.
The first place we're going to go to is one of my favorite Indian restaurants in Ottawa. There are a number of great Indian restaurants but I have come here for take out more often than I expected. If you're in the Algonquin college area, check out Brampton Authentic Indian Food. They're located at 178 Meadowlands Drive West. My favorite dish there is the lamb biryani. The only problem with them is that they have too many dishes to choose from. You'll be looking at their menu for hours.
Now I'm going to take you to the Caribbean. You'll get one of Ottawa's best meat patty at Run 2 Patty located at 853 Boyd Avenue. The only catch is that their menu changes everyday. You'll have to double check their webpage at: https://run2patty.ca/ to find out what they have on the menu. My go to dish is the ox tail patty. Each day they come out with a new surprising dish on their menu.
Next we're going to check out some Chinese. This time we go all the way to 774 Somerset Street West at the Royal Treasure. They have a wide array of great Chinese food but my go to dish there is the salt and pepper shrimp. Get this dish with some rice and you'll want to thank this article with a tip or two.
If this isn't interesting enough then you have to check out Ottawa's Somali food. Yes they have Somali food too and it's amazing! One of Ottawa's best kept secret is Alhuda Restaurant at 1644 Bank Street. Wait, there's no restaurant there, it looks like a medical building. Appearances are deceiving and this is why this is one of Ottawa's best kept secret. There's a little Somali mart in that building and you'll find Alhuda in there. My go to dish is the lamb and rice. You'll thank me later for that one.
Wait we need to get all this down with some dessert. Well Gatineau isn't that far from Ottawa. 1540 Greber Boulevard is a place called Mr. Puffs. They make traditional Turkish Lokma in a variety of flavors and it's pretty inexpensive. The drive is a little long but trust me it's worth it.
Then again you might want to go to a dessert place within the city and I'll have to suggest Lusa Bakery. This Portuguese bakery is located in the Hintonburg area of Ottawa at 1111 Wellington Street West. Everything there is good even their savory pastries. You can't leave without buying an Pastéis de Nata (egg tart) or a Pastéis de Feijão (almond and white bean tart) though.
Those are just a few of the great places you can check out in Ottawa. As a bonus I have to let you know that Kowloon Market by far has the best BBQ Duck in town. Be sure to go there early or else it will become sold out. I hope you at least check out some of those places. Maybe this will entice you to check out even more places in Ottawa and discover all of it's great restaurants and foods.
Prior to the pandemic I didn't really go out at all and I have to say I'm kind of glad I was able to check out some of these places albeit through takeout. Again, all the restaurants are suffering no matter what city you're in. If you have the means please go out and support your local restaurants and support small shops. They might be a little more expensive but know that your money is going to hard working entrepreneurs. Without them our cities and towns will lose a lot of color and character.
