A restaurant is a perfect place to feel good, to spend a wonderful evening with friends and, above all, to enjoy the taste of delicious dishes. But how do you choose the right restaurant and make sure you have a positive dining experience?

If you follow the recommendations on the internet or in the advertising leaflets, you can't get a clear idea about the quality of a restaurant, especially if there are conflicting opinions and comments. But when you step into the restaurant, several subtle signs warn you not to enjoy your outing too much.

Here are the things to look for before you sit down at the table and find that the food doesn't have the taste you dreamed of.

The hygiene of the place leaves much to be desired

When we talk about hygiene, we can start with the outside. When you go to a restaurant, you have to remember what the building looks like, right before you enter. If the windows are dirty, cigarette ash spills from the ashtray, and the walls haven't been painted in years, the restaurant probably doesn't value cleaning.

The subtle signs of carelessness are visible everywhere inside: the feeling of airlessness, heavy smells, unwashed tablecloths, cutlery, and stained glasses, damaged furniture, all tell you that restaurant managers do not care at all about its image.

What could be the quality of food, when all the other aspects leave something to be desired? Even if the taste is acceptable, we have no guarantee that it has been prepared in the right conditions and that we will not end up with a food poisoning infection when we return home.

The menus are dirty, with food between the pages

If you receive a stained menu, with traces of food on the pages and blackened corners of dirt, it's time to think carefully about whether or not to stay in that place. The chefs and waiters who give the menu know very well that this is a kind of business card for that restaurant.

If they don't care about the appearance of the menu and the fact that the customer may be disgusted with the dirty pages, we have no guarantee that they will care about the quality of the food they serve.

"If they don't keep the menus clean, they probably won't keep the toilets clean, and the waiters probably won't be very clean either," said Dennis P. Gemberling, a consultant at Perry Groups' restaurant.

You don't see many people in the restaurant

If you are the only one with friends in the restaurant or a very small number of people, there is probably a good reason for that. You should be especially careful if you eat at peak hours, such as lunch or dinner, and you don't see many people around you, in which case you'd better head to another restaurant.

The fame of a place comes, first of all, from the tasty dishes it prepares. Or, if people bypass a certain restaurant, it is clear that no one was pleased with the food served.

The menus have too many different options

No chef can specialize in all dishes. Usually, an expert chooses several types and does them very well. Some restaurants specialize in traditional food, Chinese or Arabic food, seafood, pasta, or pizza.

If the menu has extremely many pages with different dishes, from all possible kitchens, this is an alarm signal. If certain dishes are ordered very rarely, chances are that their ingredients are not too fresh, but have been in boxes and warehouses for a long time.

Other customers don't seem very happy

When you enter the restaurant, it is good to take a look at the faces of other customers, to see what impression they give you. If you notice frowning, food left on the plate, expressions of disgust or nervousness at more than two or three meals, you should turn back.

If other people have a bad experience with the restaurant you have chosen, the food may not be very satisfactory.

The food looks unattractive

If you take a look at the plates of others, which is not exactly polite, but necessary to get an idea of what awaits you, you notice that the food does not seem at all appetizing.

You may be wrong and it is very good, but let's not forget that the way we are presented with food plays an important role in stimulating the appetite and makes us enjoy the meal more. If, in addition to the unpleasant appearance of the food, you notice other signs from the above, it would be better to choose another place for lunch or dinner.

These are the main signs that suggest that the food you order is not among the best.
