What makes a restaurant local? Most answer this question with a non franchised business. Although people can live locally that own the franchised restaurant, it doesn't make it local. The restaurant must be locally owned and locally operated. With that being said let me tell you about a thriving local restaurant in my city.

The Creek in Cathedral Bistro has been an iconic restaurant in the heart of the Regina, Saskatchewan's Cathedral area for over twenty years. Their team has always strived to give the best quality meals and service, with a unique Saskatchewan twist. Currently, they are one of five restaurants in Saskatchewan that practice farm-to-table. They continue to deliver outstanding quality in their food, focusing more on wholesome healthy ingredients. The Creek in Cathedral Bistro incorporates local Saskatchewan flavours and products which has always been their direction. Many of their vegetables are supplied from the ower Jasmin Godenir.

Jasmin’s passion for culinary arts, farm life, and local business drove her to purchase the Bistro in 2008 where she could mesh her talents. She and her husband Lindsey live on a small farm outside of Regina SK. They have a large bountiful garden that supplies the Bistro with its seasonal produce, keeping the menu fresh and local.

Their head Chef Matt Braitman ( My Fiance) has a passion for cooking. He enjoys creating the bistro's menu every three months. The Bistro's menu is always changing with the season. So, there is always something new to try and enjoy. I recommend the Bison Burger. Matt is a Mediterranean-trained chef, winner of the first Regina Food Truck Wars, and co-winner of two Red Plates. He has brought his love of baking, cheese making, and curing of meats to the restaurant.

My first experience at the Bistro was New Years' Eve 2020. My girlfriends and I did a New Year's Eve dinner at the Bistro. It was by far the best meal we had all year. My friends had the cherry lentil BBQ chicken ahamado, honey beats, chevre, and sage stuffing. I had the beef short rib with roasted squash and bacon jam. Matt Braitman (the head chef) made a special fresh salad just for me on the side. The Drinks were bubbly and the desert was ever so sweet. We had white chocolate cake pops, Lemon curd tartlets, bete noire, and maple bacon baklava. We rang in the New Year with our bellies full and our sweet tooth satisfied.

For Special occasions, the Creek in Catherdral Bistro will create a special menu just for that occasion. Whether it is an anniversary, birthday, wedding, Valentine's Day, or a girl's night out. The Creek in Cathedral will cater to you and your guests with an inspiring menu. They have had couples get married inside the restaurant. With their elegant decor, you will feel like royalty on your special day.

The Bistro also makes signature drinks. The drink menu changes every three months with the main course. Combining everything for an unforgettable experience for your taste buds. During the Christmas season, I had an After Eight Martini. Combining After Eight chocolate and alcohol is always a winning pair in my books. I hate to brag, well no I don't, but their featured dessert during the Christmas season was Candy Cane ice cream. Which inspired Matt (The head chef/my fiance) by yours truly. I love all things candy cane during the Christmas season, and I'm proud to say that it was a hit in the restaurant.

The entire menu is always made from scratch and always inspired by the local community. Did you know that Saskatchewan is the world's largest supplier of pulse crops like chickpeas and lentils? The Bistro did, and they like to take pride in what the province provides. So, they have dedicated this wrap to Saskatchewan! The Saskatchewan Pulse Wrap is currently on the menu and has Lentil Croquettes made from local lentils!
