Review of the Drink

Starbucks' Blueberry Cheesecake Frappuchino

If Starbucks and Disney have anything in common, it’s that they know to make magic and dreams come true. A lot of their creative and colourful drinks like the mermaid and unicorn lattes look like something taken straight out of a Disney movie. With a lot of drinks exclusive to certain countries, it’s makes me want to travel around the world and try them all out.

I’ve been to quite a few Starbucks around the world. With Starbucks customizing their menu to their country’s cultures with some quirks thrown in, it’s given them one of the largest secret menus I’ve ever come across. A lot of my favourite Starbucks drinks are not available in the U.K. at the moment.

On a trip to my local Starbucks I saw the posters for their cheesecake frappuchino range. I bet these will be popular here in the U.K. because of the current heatwave. There are three flavours at the moment: mocha, caramel and blueberry. Out of all of them, I chose to go with the blueberry cheesecake as it looked the most appetizing.

Also liked the look of the colours—reminded me of the unicorn latte that was out in the US. Don’t know if they still do those in America or not. Seeing these made me remember Japan doing those cheesecake frappuchinos with lots of cream and cake on top like a desert drink. I haven’t tried the Japanese strawberry cheesecake frappuchino, so I can’t really compare it to the drink in my hand. I guess they would taste similar but with strawberry instead of blueberry.

Cosmopolitan have already want to bring the three drinks over to the US, citing a very wise quote from The Golden Girls.

There’s been a lot of buzz about the drinks so I tried it to see if it was worth the hype. I quite liked it, it’s very much a desert drink. I could taste the blueberries in it and the biscuits, but the cream taste was very strong.

Needless to say, it has a lot of calories. According to The Sun it has twice the amount of calories as two burgers from McDonalds. Though I think most of us all know that frappuchinos like these are going to be high in calories and sugar.

It’s a blend of blueberry purée with cheesecake mix topped with cream and biscuit crumbles. It does taste like a cheesecake to me.

For a desert drink, it wasn’t as sweet as I expected it to be. But I think it had the right amount of sweetness for me. The drink is really pretty to look at and I love the shade of purple: totally suitable for Instagram.

At the moment this drink is only available in the UK stores, but I have a feeling they will cross over to the states soon as they seem to be quite high in demand.

Drinking this made me feel full. I had lunch here. I had a sandwich, some almond nuts and this drink. The frappuchino made me feel so full, I don’t think I will need anything else for the rest of the day.

The best things about this drink is that the sugar isn’t overpowering. The cheesecake flavour is very much present and becomes stronger as the drink goes down. The purple hues in this drink are gorgeous. In fact so pretty, I almost didn’t want to drink it.

I think the bad points which have already been mentioned are the high price and high calories, which I think many would already expect from such an indulgent drink. I would consider this to be more of a pudding than a drink because at times I found it hard to get the drink out of the straw.

I wouldn’t say this is my favourite, but I did enjoy this drink. I didn’t think there were many problems. I think if I had another one of these right now, I would feel sick and nauseous. Can’t have too much of a good thing after all. It’s very nice and tasty. I shall also have an iced green tea to purify my indulgent coffee sins.
