Camp Food
Going on camp in the school holidays was always exciting, making new friends, taking on new responsibilities, and the best was exploring the kitchen when it was your turn to cook for the whole camp. Under supervision of course. It was so exciting playing with gadgets never before seen. My favourite was the toaster where you can toast rows and rows of bread at once. All you had to do was lay the bread down flat in single rows of four and the the machine would slide the bread through the heated grills and out they would pop on the other side ready for stacking, then to be served.

The first day of school holidays has a special place in my heart. The day usually started with an exam and ended with an end of the year party. And then even better, I would go back home, draw the curtains against the blinding afternoon sun, lie down and read my favorite novel.

Taste of Summer
Summer. Fire rages, fueled by a seemingly endless supply of gas. Within metal housing, the flames heat everything surrounding it. Soon the air is two hundred, three hundred, four hundred degrees. Unable to escape, the molecules speed up, faster and faster they accelerate. After a time, the roof is removed—it doesn’t collapse like in a normal fire, but rather swings away, still visible from below. The metal floor is unbearable—all life on it has extinguished as the fires burn.

You scream... I scream
Sweat dripping, mouth open almost panting you shriek “give it to me” as you reach for the joy in a bowl, the sweet melting cold and creamy ice cream your mom had set down a moment ago and your brother ran up and swiped both bowls. Your brother laughs as he runs away with yours taunting you.

Snow Cone Summer
I had a love/hate relationship with summer as a kid. My mom, however, had no qualms about her feelings. She hated summer vacation. The first couple of days were full of laughter and playing, but by the third day, she would start to hear murmurs of “I’m bored,” and wonder if she could survive another summer vacation. Mom loved us, but she did not like hearing us complain about boredom all summer.

The notes of Tofu
A few days ago, the doctor advised to eat more eggs and lean meat, and tofu and other high-protein foods. Speaking of tofu, an interesting incident comes to mind for no apparent reason. Many years ago, I had a dinner with a literary friend. It was a vegetarian dinner, but all the meat on the table. When we were talking, our friend suddenly pointed to the chicken feet with pickled pepper in front of him and asked how it tasted. I laughed and said, "These are all soy products. I was a little surprised, the meal is almost finished, but I did not notice that those are soy products. I only knew that antiques could be imitated, but I didn't think there were "fakes" in food.

The Glory Days
Ahh, the delectable harrows of summer. The sweltering sun, the incessant buzz of insects you can never quite locate, the all-out warfare upon the grimy waves of a public pool. Summer gave us quarter from education, gave us a sense of childlike joy to explore and play under the warm embrace of the sun. Summer is a pillar of our childhoods, as equally important as a concept as it is a season. You see, summer isn't just a time of year, it’s an experience.

Gridilla. Top Story - June 2022.
From the time I was young, I loved Godzilla movies. Godzilla movies and the Ultraman television show, but Ultraman is for another story. I remember getting excited every Saturday afternoon to see what “new” Godzilla movie would be showing on my local television station. My seven-year-old brain delighted in the different monsters each and every week. And you can imagine how blown away I was when I saw Jet Jaguar in Godzilla versus Megalon! But again, Godzilla versus Megalon is a topic that deserves a story all to itself.

I love love love a delicious bowl of homemade macaroni salad. Thinking about all the tasteful ingredients and seasonings of vibrant flavor is what makes it more special instead of the regular plain store bought macaroni salad.

“I like brownies”
Introduction: The One legend about the creation of brownies is that of Bertha Palmer, a prominent Chicago socialite whose husband owned the Palmer House Hotel. In 1893, Palmer asked a pastry chef for a dessert suitable for ladies attending the Chicago World's Columbian Exposition. She requested a cake-like confection smaller than a piece of cake that could be included in boxed lunches. The result was the Palmer House Brownie with walnuts and an apricot glaze. The modern Palmer House Hotel serves a dessert to patrons made from the same recipe. The name was given to the dessert sometime after 1893, later used by cookbooks and journals.
