What would you order for your last meal?

In the latest episode of Mythical Kitchen's sensational Youtube series Last Meals, Jake Johnson orders four dishes of his favourite comfort foods. Then he sits down to eat them with Josh while delving into 40 minutes of deep discussion on life's most serious questions.

I'm not sure about you guys but for me, the show is the perfect formula to automatically put me in a good mood. What's not to love? Good food + Good conversation = Good times. Especially because the serious topics and the delightful foods are not things that anyone I know would ever normally dare to tackle all at once. Yet the show dares to adventure into all of these extreme ideas in just one video.

This series always gets me thinking about what the best, last meals to be had are. I am still not sure what mine would be (especially because one usually has to commit a crime before being offered a last meal and I don't plan on committing anytime soon!) But I know given a last meal option, I would pick something tasty and a comfort food that reminded me of fun times.

Comfort foods are dishes that evoke feelings of nostalgia, warmth, and satisfaction. They are often simple, hearty, and easy to prepare. Among Hollywood celebrities that have been on Mythical Kitchen's channel, some popular comfort foods that have been selected are:

Macaroni and cheese: A classic dish made with macaroni pasta and a creamy cheese sauce. It’s a favorite among both kids and adults alike.

Mashed potatoes: A simple side dish made by boiling potatoes and mashing them with butter, milk, and salt. It’s a staple at many family dinners.

Grilled cheese sandwich: A sandwich made with melted cheese between two slices of bread, grilled until crispy and golden brown. It’s a quick and easy meal that’s perfect for lunch or dinner.

Chicken noodle soup: A soup made with chicken, vegetables, and noodles. It’s a comforting meal that’s perfect for cold winter days.

Meatloaf: A dish made with ground beef, breadcrumbs, and spices, baked in the oven until tender and juicy. It’s a classic American comfort food.

Fried chicken: Chicken that is coated in flour and fried until crispy and golden brown. It’s a popular comfort food in the southern United States.

Pot roast: A dish made with beef, vegetables, and potatoes, slow-cooked until tender and flavorful. It’s a hearty meal that’s perfect for a cozy night in.

Chocolate chip cookies: A sweet treat made with chocolate chips, butter, sugar, and flour. They’re a classic dessert that’s perfect for any occasion.

These are just a few examples of the simpler comfort foods out there. But some people like to go all out and order 5 star, chef's quality, traditional, staple dishes for their last meals which makes sense too. Gordan Ramsey's Last Meals episode is a good example of this, featuring a more diverse assortment of traditional, staple foods. Seeing it all got me hungry researching more about chef-style comfort foods around the world. Apparently some of them are:

Oma’s Apfelkuchen: A German apple cake that has been passed down for generations.

Chicken Vegetable Curry: A spicy and flavorful dish that is popular in India and other parts of Asia.

Lentil and Carrot Soup: A simple and hearty soup that is a staple in French cuisine.

Coconut Mango Bread Pudding with Rum Sauce: A sweet and tropical dessert that is popular in Puerto Rico.

Filipino Adobo Aromatic Chicken: A savory and tangy chicken dish that is a staple in Filipino cuisine.

Soft Beer Pretzel Nuggets: A salty and chewy snack that is popular in Germany and other parts of Europe.

Country French Pork with Prunes and Apples: A slow-cooked pork dish that is a classic in French cuisine.

Slow-Cooker Pad Thai: A flavorful and aromatic noodle dish that is popular in Thailand.

German Schnitzel and Potatoes with Gorgonzola Cream: A hearty and satisfying dish that is a staple in German cuisine.

These are just a few examples of the many comfort foods enjoyed around the world. Comfort food is a personal and subjective concept, and what one person finds comforting may not be the same for another. That is why it is so interesting to tune into the show every now and then and see what tasty meals these celebrities are whipping up for dinner. Anyway, that's it for this post. I'm about to finish watching the episode while digging into my own takeout order and wishing I could cook burgers like the chefs on this channel!

Uhhhhh gotta be dirty chilli fries with all the toppings. Sour cream, grated cheese, salsa, jalapeños.... 😋 but the chilli has to have been improving in the fridge for a couple of days. The cheese has to be good cheddar, and the fries have to be just the right amount of crispy 😋😋😋😋😋
