Have you ever wondered what´s the secret to making the perfect glass of sweet tea?

Well the key to perfecting a terrific sweet tea is in the type of tea you use and how you brew it as well as the type (s) of sugar that you use.

What makes this drink so special is the sweet and refreshing taste sure to quench anyones thirst on the hottest Summer day in whatever city that you reside. It is so good without ever being bitter!

Sweet tea is arguably the perfect drink for any occasion and it´s extremely affordable to make. The key ingredients are most likely already right in your kitchen!

There´s a bit of an ongoing debate on exactly which kind of tea to use. Many folks swear by black tea while others have make do with whatever they have on supply at home. (It´s totally up to you). There´s also talk of how it´s sweetened. While some may prefer using a simple syrup mixture other prefer to go the straight up sugar route.

Southern Sweet Tea

Attend any event in the South and you´ll see that it is the staple drink of the dirty South. See for yourself just how popular it is. But for now let´s work on the details. Below you´ll find the secret to the perfect tasting southern sweet tea.

Ingredients

Before you do anything you start by making a concentrated tea base. Then you will need to make a simple syrup!

  • 3 cups of water
  • 4-6 Black tea tea bags
  • Simple syrup
  • White sugar
  • Brown sugar
  • Combine: The tea bags in a pot of 5 cups of boiling water or 2 quarts of water if you want more. Make a simple syrup by adding the brown sugar and the white sugar. Boil the simple sugar for about five to six minutes and set aside. The color should be caramel brown and resemble brandy or cognac (not as dark as coffee). When it starts to simmer turn off the heat. Tie the tea bags together inside the three cups of water in a new pot and let it hang on the side of the pot. Let it steep for 8 minutes. If you leave it any longer it will be too strong and leave a bitter taste. Squeeze out the tea bags. Pour hot tea in a liter pitcher, then add the simple syrup and concentrated tea base together. Some people use lemons and ice in their finished mixture. This is up to you or whoever the drink will be made for.

Add the beefy onion soup mix and then add the bacon back in and turn the heat to medium. Sprinkle in the cornstarch. Deglaze with chicken stock. Add cajun seasoning and sugar. Next add vinegar to cut some of the fat from the bacon. Put lid on and let it sit for 2-3 minutes (you will see it naturally made cabbage gravy). Please tweak these recipes to your liking.
