1. Daredevil - 2003

The story of Matt Murdock begins with his childhood accident that leaves him blind. After seeing his father, a former prizefighter known as "The Devil", extort money for a local mobster, Matt is exposed to toxic chemicals that enhance his remaining senses, giving him superhuman abilities. Feeling guilty for his son's accident, Jack gives up his life of crime and makes a comeback as a boxer, but is later killed by the same mobster who bribed his opponents to let him win.

As an adult, Matt works as a pro bono attorney in Hell's Kitchen with his friend Foggy, and fights crime by night as the vigilante "Daredevil". A reporter named Ben Urich chronicles Daredevil's activities and exposes the Kingpin, a notorious underworld figure who is actually a brutal mobster named Wilson Fisk. Matt falls in love with Elektra, a skilled martial artist who is later killed by Bullseye, a hitman hired by Fisk.

Injured and seeking revenge, Matt ambushes Fisk and confronts him about his role in his father's death. Fisk reveals that he killed Matt's father on Fallon's orders, and threatens to expose Daredevil's true identity, but Matt manages to defeat him using his sonar hearing. Urich decides not to publish Daredevil's identity and Bullseye wakes up in a hospital, foreshadowing a potential return.

Overall, this thrilling story follows the life of a blind man turned superhero, and the obstacles he faces both in his personal and professional life. The intricate plot is filled with betrayals, love, and loss, all while Matt battles to protect his city from the forces of evil.

2. Armageddon - 1998

In a catastrophic event, the Space Shuttle Atlantis is destroyed by a massive meteor shower before the meteors hit New York City, having been redirected by a rogue comet. The situation worsens when NASA discovers a Texas-sized asteroid that will impact Earth in 18 days, causing a catastrophic event that will result in the extinction of all life on the planet. To avert this disaster, NASA devises a plan to drill a deep hole into the asteroid and insert a nuclear bomb to destroy it.

Harry Stamper, an experienced oil driller, is recruited for the mission and agrees to lead his own team, consisting of his top employees, to carry out the drilling. The team includes Chick Chapel, Harry's best friend and right-hand man; geologists Rockhound and Oscar Choice; and drillers Bear Curlene, Freddie Noonan, Max Lennert, and A.J. Frost, who is dating Harry's daughter, Grace. In 12 days, they undergo intense training to become astronauts under Willie Sharp's guidance, who will pilot one of the two shuttles, Freedom and Independence, to the asteroid. Before they depart, Chick makes amends with his ex-wife and reunites with his son, and Grace accepts A.J.'s marriage proposal, much to Harry's reluctance.

The mission becomes public after the destruction of Shanghai by another meteor strike. Both shuttles dock with the Russian Space Station Mir to refuel, but a fire caused by a spark destroys the station. A.J. and Russian cosmonaut Lev Andropov board the Independence before the disaster strikes. As they approach the asteroid, the Independence is damaged by debris and crashes, killing everyone on board except Lev, Bear, and A.J. They set off in the shuttle's Armadillo to find the Freedom crew, which lands 26 miles from its intended landing site.

When drilling takes longer than expected, Mission Control declares that it is unlikely that the team will reach the necessary depth before "Zero Barrier," the point at which the asteroid cannot be destroyed to save Earth. The President orders the bomb to be remotely detonated from Earth, but Sharp and Harry disagree, with the latter promising to accomplish the mission. While drilling, a gas pocket is missed, causing the Armadillo and Max to be blown into space. Another meteor devastates Paris, and the mission appears to be a failure. However, A.J. and the others arrive in a second Armadillo, and A.J. successfully drills to the required depth.

During the final stage of the mission, a rock storm kills Gruber and damages the remote detonator, requiring someone to stay behind and manually detonate the bomb. A.J. draws the short straw, and Harry takes him down to the asteroid's surface, disconnects his air hose, and forces him into the shuttle's airlock, telling him that he would be proud to have him marry Grace. Tearfully, Harry gives Grace his blessing to marry A.J. Using the Armadillo, Harry detonates the bomb just before Zero Barrier, saving the planet.

The astronauts land safely on Earth, and A.J. and Grace are reunited. Chick reconciles with his ex-wife and son, and A.J. and Grace get married with portraits of Harry and the other lost crew members in memoriam.

3. The Village - 2004

The residents of Covington, a small, isolated village in 19th-century Pennsylvania, are haunted by the presence of humanoid creatures in the surrounding woods, known as "Those We Don't Speak Of". To keep themselves safe, the villagers have built a large barrier of oil lanterns and watchtowers, which are constantly monitored.

After the funeral of a child, Lucius Hunt requests permission from the Elders to venture through the woods to obtain medical supplies from the nearby towns. However, his request is denied, and his mother, Alice, scolds him for even considering the idea. The Elders, who themselves harbor dark secrets from their past, warn the villagers of the dangers lurking in the towns beyond their village.

When Lucius takes an unauthorized trip into the woods, the creatures retaliate by leaving red paint marks on all the villagers' doors as a warning. Meanwhile, Ivy, the blind daughter of Chief Elder Edward Walker, confesses her love for Lucius, and they plan to get married. But Noah, a young man with developmental disabilities, becomes jealous and stabs Lucius. Noah is locked up, and his fate is uncertain.

Against the wishes of the other Elders, Edward agrees to let Ivy pass through the woods to get medicine for Lucius. He reveals to her that the creatures in the woods are, in fact, members of their community wearing costumes, perpetuating the myth of monsters to deter people from trying to leave the village. Two young men accompany Ivy, but they abandon her soon after, leaving her alone in the woods.

During her journey, Ivy is attacked by one of the creatures, but she manages to trick it into falling to its death in a deep hole. Ivy returns to the village with the medicine, unaware of the truth about the creatures in the woods.

Later, it is revealed that Covington was founded in the late 1970s by Edward, a former professor of American history at the University of Pennsylvania, who recruited people from a grief counseling clinic to create a safe haven for themselves. They built the village in the center of a wildlife preserve, funded a ranger corps to keep people out, and even paid off the government to make it a no-fly zone.

When Ivy returns, the Elders gather around Lucius's bed and secretly open their black boxes, containing mementos of their past traumas, including items related to their experiences as crime victims. Edward explains that Noah's death will allow them to continue deceiving the villagers that there are monsters in the woods.

As the story unfolds, the truth about the village and its inhabitants is gradually revealed, painting a complex picture of human nature and the lengths people will go to protect themselves from the perceived dangers of the world.

4. Total Recall - 2012

The Earth has been devastated by chemical warfare by the end of the 21st century, leaving only two habitable territories: the United Federation of Britain (UFB) and the Colony. The UFB is located in the British Isles and northwestern Europe, while the Colony spans all of Australia. The only way for Colony workers to commute to the UFB is through "The Fall," a gravity elevator that runs through the Earth's core. Unfortunately, this has resulted in a significant disparity in living conditions, which has given rise to a group of people called the Resistance. The UFB considers the Resistance as terrorists and seeks to eradicate them.

Douglas Quaid, a worker in the Colony, is dissatisfied with his job building police robots and has recurring dreams of being a secret agent partnered with an unknown woman. He decides to visit Rekall, a company that implants artificial memories, and chooses the fantasy of being a secret agent. During the preparatory procedures, technician McClane discovers that Quaid already has real memories of being a spy. As McClane begins to investigate, a squad of UFB police arrives, killing the Rekall staff and attempting to apprehend Quaid. Quaid's hidden skills are activated, and he kills the entire squad before returning home to his wife, Lori. Lori tries to kill him, revealing that she is a UFB intelligence agent, and they have been married for only six weeks, not seven years as he thought.

Quaid escapes and receives a message from himself through a safe-deposit box. The message contains the address of a UFB apartment, which Quaid visits. Lori and her team chase Quaid, but he is rescued by Melina, the woman from his dreams. Quaid discovers that he is rogue UFB agent Carl Hauser, who was working for UFB Chancellor Cohaagen to infiltrate the Resistance before defecting. Quaid has a kill code that can disable an army of robots, which Cohaagen plans to use to destroy the Colony and expand the UFB's living space. Hauser was implanted with false memories to manipulate him, but Matthias, the Resistance leader, may be able to retrieve the kill code from Quaid's memory.

Melina and Quaid are surrounded by the police and Harry, Quaid's friend, who claims that Quaid is still in a Rekall-induced dream. Harry insists that killing Melina is the only way out, but a tear on Melina's cheek convinces Quaid to shoot Harry. Lori continues to pursue them, but they manage to escape.

Matthias searches Quaid's memories until Lori and Cohaagen raid the Resistance base. Cohaagen reveals that he tricked Quaid into leading him to Matthias, whom he kills before taking Melina captive. He orders his team to restore Quaid's memory to the "old Hauser" before he was corrupted. Hammond, Quaid's former colleague, intervenes and frees Quaid before dying.

Quaid sneaks aboard the Fall, which Cohaagen has loaded with his robot army. Quaid sets timed explosives throughout the vessel while searching for Melina. After they find and free Melina, they fight Cohaagen and his soldiers until Quaid's explosives detonate. Quaid and Melina jump off the vessel before it crashes back into the tunnel and explodes underground, killing Cohaagen and his army along with the Fall itself.

Quaid wakes up in an ambulance with Melina, whom he soon realizes is a holographically disguised Lori. Quaid kills Lori before reuniting with the real Melina, as news channels declare the Colony's independence from the UFB.

5. Lucy - 2014

Lucy, an American studying in Taipei, Taiwan, falls prey to her new boyfriend Richard's trickery and ends up working as a drug mule for a South Korean kkangpae and drug lord. She delivers a briefcase containing four packets of the highly valuable synthetic drug CPH4 to Mr. Jang, only to witness Richard's murder shortly after. Captured and forcibly implanted with a bag of the drug sewn into her abdomen, Lucy is kicked, causing the bag to rupture and flood her system with the substance, enhancing her physical and mental capabilities beyond measure. She becomes unfeeling and ruthless, ultimately killing her captors and escaping.

Lucy seeks medical attention to remove the bag of drugs from her abdomen and learns from the operating doctor that natural CPH4 is produced in pregnant women during their sixth week of pregnancy to provide energy for the fetus's development. With heightened abilities, she returns to Mr. Jang's hotel, kills his guards, and extracts the locations of the remaining three drug mules from his brain using telepathy. Lucy contacts scientist Samuel Norman, whose research could help her, and provides him with proof of her developed abilities. She flies to Paris and enlists the help of local police captain Pierre Del Rio to recover the rest of the drugs.

Lucy's cells begin to destabilize during the flight due to consuming a sip of champagne, and she ingests more of the drug to prevent her disintegration. With the help of Del Rio, Lucy recovers the remaining drugs and shares everything she knows with Norman and his colleagues in his lab. She injects herself with the contents of all three bags of CPH4 and transforms into a black substance that spreads over electronic objects in the lab, transforming them into a next-generation supercomputer. She mentally travels back in time to the beginning of mankind, touching fingertips with australopithecus Lucy, and witnesses the Big Bang.

Jang enters the lab and attempts to shoot Lucy, but she has reached 100% of her brain capacity and disappears into the spacetime continuum. Del Rio shoots and kills Jang, and Norman takes a black flash drive offered by the supercomputer, which disintegrates shortly after. Lucy's voice is heard stating "Life was given to us a billion years ago. Now you know what to do with it," leaving behind only her clothes and the black supercomputer. Del Rio receives a text message on his cell phone saying "I am everywhere."
