Do we actually have the power to change our lives by simply manifesting our hopes and dreams? So many different cultures and people do believe that this is true. That if you simply focus enough on your wants and desires that they will come to you. So many books are written about this, so many Gurus’ and Life Coaches speak of it. Through meditations and practicing conscious mindfulness a person can actually manifest their lives. One of the most popular books that discuss this idea in detail is The Secret. Can a person really ask the universe for something and have it handed to them on a silver platter? This is the question so many people ask themselves? We ask this because so many of us are sceptics, you see just as there are so many believers of the concepts that are written in The Secret there are also so many other ideas in life that exist as well. Ideas such as "We cannot control our fate" or "Your destiny is already written in the stars and you are just riding the wave" These are very popular ways of thinking as well.

One woman was about to forever change her life and discover that there is some truth written within "The Secret" and she would in fact manifest her own destiny... She just didn't know it yet...

Ginny was in her mid 30's had a couple of kids, a good husband and a decent job. She had settled into her mundane life quite comfortably. They didn't have a lot of money, they did not own their own home, or went on big vacations there was nothing lavish about their life. Ginny always thought that life is what it is and you can't control what happens to you. "You have to just go with the flow". Couldn't really blame her for thinking that way, she did not come from a privileged life; her parents could barely afford to put food on the table when she was a child. So for her just being able to pay the bills regularly and keep the children well fed felt like success. Well, at least it used to.

After many years of living with the same shit, different day sort of attitude, Ginny was growing quite board of it all. She began to wonder about life, the same way she would when she was younger, "This is it!?! Is this all there will ever be for me? This small town? This little job? Is it really all this simple?" Maybe if younger Ginny had tried a little harder and not been so submissive in life just maybe she wouldn't be here today. Maybe if she had asked the universe for more or had bigger ambitions then just maybe her life would be different today.

As Ginny sat there and pondered her life the phone rang. It was Kate, one of her dear old friends from her high school years. Kate was the type of friend you loved hearing from because she always has some great adventure to tell you about. She had been very successful in life but never forgot where she came from and always kept in touch with Ginny over the years.

After a good half an hour of catching up and hearing all about Kate's latest vacation and all her exciting ventures, Ginny began to choke up and her eyes began welling up with tears, "I don't know if I'm having a mid-life crisis but I'm beginning to hate my life.... I love my children and my husband but I'm approaching my 40's I have never even been on a plane, let alone a real vacation, not that I could even afford one. I barely have any savings in the bank... Shit! I don't even own my own home! How did I even get here?" Kate sat in silence for a minute then said, "I never knew you felt this way? You always seem so happy?" Then she asks, “Have you ever read the book The Secret? Have you ever tried to manifest your hopes and dreams and make them come true?”

Of course Ginny had heard of these concepts but she never paid much attention to any of it. It always seemed a little too fairy tale like for her. Kate went on to tell her that she was a big believer in manifesting your own happiness and controlling your own destiny and that even now Ginny could still change her life.

After the phone call Ginny opened up her laptop and started doing some research on the topic. Then she went up to her room and dug out this little black book filled with lined paper that no one had ever even written in. She didn't remember exactly when or where she got this little book. She did however remember exactly what drawer it had been tucked away in. This little black book would inevitably play a major role in changing her life!

She began to write in her little black book. First she wrote a list of all the things she really wanted in life, things like "I want to own my own home... I want to go on a trip down south...I want to make more money. I want to be more successful. I want to smile more often" The list went on and on. Then she wrote herself a daily affirmation "You can achieve anything you put your mind to. If you open your heart and your mind opportunities will present themselves etc." She would read these things every day and after she would often write more in it. A positive thought of the day maybe or a simple note of something good that happened... She did so for about a month.

One day a client took notice of Ginny hard at work. The client approached her "I've noticed how efficient you are here and your personality with the clients and staff really shines. I wonder if you would be willing to discuss a position with my company?" She agreed to listen to the offer and sat down to hear about this opportunity. The position was more than double the salary that Ginny was making and had much more flexible hours, better benefits and sounded amazing! Ginny thought back to her little black book, her list of wants...and without any hesitation she accepted the new job!

Rushing home to tell her husband the exciting news, she stopped at the mall to pick up a bottle of wine to celebrate and run a couple errands. While she was at the shop she had her lottery ticket scanned. She won $20,000 dollars! Completely ecstatic Ginny began sobbing uncontrollably. Big giant sweltering tears of joy were rolling down her cheeks! This was exactly the amount they needed to get the down payment on that house she had her eye on.

This was all too incredible! On her way home she kept thinking about her little black book and her list of wants and her affirmation that she had written and all her notes. "Could this all be a coincidence? No way! I don't think so!" She thought to herself. "The universe is listening!"

Overwhelmed with joy she ran through the front door to find her husband in the kitchen with flowers, a card, and a bottle of wine. "I have some great news!" he exclaimed "Me too!" she said but she couldn't get another word in before he blurted out "I got that promotion at work and tonight we are going to celebrate!... Also I've been saving some money on the side because I wanted to surprise you" as he hands her the card. Ginny opens up the card and inside are two tickets round trip tickets to Jamaica! "Unbelievable!" She screams.

By now Ginny is completely overwhelmed almost in a state of shock. Her husband begins to worry "Are you ok? I hope you like it?" Ginny takes a seat and a big sip of wine and proceeds to tell her husband all about her new job opportunity and her big lottery win and then both of them begin to laugh and cry all at the same time. The children came running down in complete confusion over the hysterics happening in the kitchen.

After getting a grip on herself and spending some time celebrating with her husband and kids. She remembers her phone call with Kate and looks at her little black book sitting on her side table. She would frame if she could. Instead she carries it everywhere she goes and starts a new list of things that she wants in life and still writes in it almost every day. Ginny found out that there is truth written in The Secret. We can shape our future and change our destiny if we truly want to change it....
