Pieces of a Woman: A Heartbreaking Portrayal of Grief
My eyes are squeezed shut. I can hear the panting and crying of the woman giving birth. There are words of encouragement scattered amongst a repetition of the words “push harder” that are always followed by a long hoarse groan. I vow to myself silently that I am never going to have a child or even have sex because childbirth sounds inhumane. All of a sudden, there is a crash, and a shrill scream pierces the air. A strong cry punctuates the silence that follows, and there is a collective gasp around the room. I open my eyes to find my friend has fainted and fallen from her chair and the woman on the television screen has given birth to a baby girl. I was 11 years old when I studied the process of human reproduction. In some of the classes, me and my friends were in a constant fit of giggles, especially when learning about the male anatomy, and in others stunned into silence, our minds unable to reconcile the stories we had been told and actual biological fact.

Critics Hate Hillbilly Elegy
First a book, then a New York Times Bestseller, now a Netflix film, Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of A Family and Culture in Crisis , depicts the abuse, drug addiction, and overall redneck fuckery that occurs in my home state, Kentucky, and other parts of Appalachia.

Chrystal BerkeleyPublished 4 years ago in FamiliesReflections on "A Marriage Story"
The other day, I sat at the dinner table with my kids and did something I rarely do -- I told them about a movie I'd watched three times, called A Marriage Story (directed by Noah Baumbach), about a couple who gets divorced and ends up moving to Los Angeles.
Jana Marie RosePublished 4 years ago in FamiliesMovie Review: 'Babysplitters' Can't Even Pander well
I don’t believe in conspiracy theories but if I were to subscribe to one, it would be one in which filmmakers were inculcated to reinforce traditional family dynamics. Any time a movie attempts to deviate from the norm and present unconventional types of sexual or familial dynamics, you know that this is merely a Trojan horse and that by the end, the characters will be in their loving, two person, hetero-normative relationship with kids that are genetically their own.
Sean PatrickPublished 4 years ago in FamiliesMy Review of "The Song of Names"
The Song of Names was a movie that came out last year. I was fortunate enough to be picked for an early screening to this movie when it first came out but I was too late to respond so I didn't get to watch it until now. I'm a little disappointed because I now realize how great of a movie I missed out on. This movie is complex with multiple layers of story telling. You won't regret watching it.

In fact, Junghwan is the real image I like in real life. Nickname: JW's face is ugly, his face doesn't even look good. But he's predestined! JW doesn't know how to express his feelings, but I'm impressed by the way he treats his family, friends and the girl he loves. Extremely touched, he raised his hands and feet in response to his father's joke, he wrote the name of his mother on the passport, held a wedding for them, fulfilled his dream of piloting in place of his brother Jung Bong. As "I know, so miserable" face, when his friends told him to pay for food because of the four JWs being a rich-kid The way he cares about Duk Sun, is also full of quiet, yielding. In episode 4, I fell for the bush when JW protected DS on the bus full of people but his face still pretended not to care, from that protective moment, JW's affection grew with the years ... Every day, he always waited for an hour to go to school with Duk Sun, always worried about not being able to sleep until Duk Sun didn't come back from the study room, ran immediately to Mc Donald's shop because of a vague call, give Duk Sun a Christmas present even though I'm not her "secret" Santa.
