Becoming a grandparent makes getting older something to look forward to - all the fun of parenting, without the hassle.
Gentle Survivors
Dear Grandma Maxine, I wish I could've known you. I wish you would've been here to rock me as a baby, sneak me cookies as a child, or help me mend my grown up broken heart. Your name feels foreign in my mouth, yet the stories of you are closer than my bones.

The Amazing Anita Miller
Anita Miller (or as I call you) Grandma Nini, I have no memories of you before your mind decided to go. I remember all of us as kids giggling as you’d read every street sign or billboard out loud about six times just trying to make sense of it. For all of this I apologize; as we didn’t know any better.

To My Grandmother, With Love
As a man it is sometimes very difficult to see how much women go through. I can really only understand what I have read or seen in movies, but now reflecting on my life and the people around me- I can see how much you have gone through Gram.

Grandmas
To my Maternal and Paternal Grandmothers, You were both very different like night and day, but my long talks with the both of you, gave me balance in my life and taught me how to be a real woman. I learned how to become a virtuous woman, the strong values associated with being a mother and a wife as well as an independent woman. Thank you grandmas for representing what a women can be through hard work and self-preservation.

Lessons from my grandfather
As a child, I was lucky. My grandparents raised me so I got to experience things that not all children were lucky enough to. I fell in love with artists like Pink Floyd and Bob Dylan, I learned how to sew, I learned how to start and more importantly maintain a fire. However, the most important lesson that they taught me – I think without even realizing it, was how to be present in each and every moment. My grandfather did not speak much, he spoke, but my brain has a difficult time remembering the words he used to spill out over the television. It was not until he passed away that I truly understood what he had been saying for all those years.

All the Conversations I Never Got to Have with my Grandmother
If there's one person no longer alive who I'd like to sit and have dinner with, it's my paternal grandmother. Hopefully it will be a long one, to make up for the fact that we never had a conversation at all during the time she was alive and in our presence.
