A Pond of Time
She woke up that morning and she could feel the chill in the air. Feeling the brisk air, she knew that meant a fresh layer or more of snow and she refused to open her eyes. Even in April, it was still basically winter up in the mountains. Not opening her eyes, helped make it less real. She could stay in that dreamful state and feel the sun on her skin on the beach looking at the ocean and that big ship, she wondered if it was a pirate ship. She wasn't entirely sure where she was but she loved it there, somehow it felt like home. She knew that her parents would be ice fishing on the pond, and she hated it there. Ever since her brother drowned in the pond three years ago, she despised going out there. Her parents said that they felt more connected to him there, she only felt anger.

Flower of hope
Grincha tied her hair into a bun, flinging on her cap as she went. Earlier that morning, she had awoken to Liam moving around the small bedroom that they shared with her nine younger children. He had an early morning in the fields and was in a hurry to get out of the house. Liam was her oldest boy, of sixteen years. Grincha’s husband had died in a water wheel accident. That was six years ago. Liam had bumped into three-year-old Alica when he was leaving, waking her, and sending her into fits of tears, which, of course, had woken everyone else. Liam apologized, but had do leave directly after the traumatic event(in Alica’s line of view), and left Grincha with the task of feeding them. It wasn’t his fault. After all, he was the only one bringing real money in for this family. Raking rich neighbor Olga’s yard and being paid three guilders a day wasn’t near enough to keep them alive. Even Liam’s seventy a month was barely enough to buy food and a clean water source. They were still in debt for that well in the backyard.

The Chaos Of Toys
If you're like me in this day and age where you have a child, or two, you more than likely have a never ending hoard of toys everywhere. Stuffed in ever box, in the closet, under the bed toys everywhere. Having a child that has just celebrated a birthday you amass more to your growing hoard of cars, bubbles and dinosaurs and wonder "where the heck am I going to put this all?!".

A Small Piece Of Heaven
Persephone Simone Giles came into this world, mid-afternoon on July 4th.... in the year of our lord 2012. It was a perfectly beautiful day in every imaginable way. The sun was shining brightly, marigold flowers were in full bloom, birds were singing.... the moon, stars, and planets were all in perfect alignment, and all was right through out the known universe.

There was a Time
Before I had children, I had no idea why people complained so much about Daylight Savings Time. Once a year, you’d get an extra hour of sleep, and, twice a year, the existential satisfaction of successfully resetting all your clocks. Many millennia have passed since those childless days*. I now know that all DST really does is make children into hellions and parents into zombies. Worse, due to the “helpfulness” of technology, I’m now largely deprived of the small comfort competent clock maintenance. Most clocks reset themselves and I fear that we humans will soon lose the skill all together. It’ll go the way of reading paper maps, cursive penmanship, checkbook balancing, and being able to tell a real conservative from a fake one. The future is grim, folks.

The Box That Keeps On Giving
I must confess before the world Pandemic of Covid-19 I personally might have shopped Amazon, maybe 3 times in my life. Nothing against them, being in my mid- fifties I wasn’t keen on the idea of converting to computers, internet or high tech things, I was comfortable doing things as I have always done them. Since Covid-19, I with the rest of the world have used them more than before. Especially when going to the store was not an option. Thus being said, my husband and our oldest daughter have always used them. They use them so much that there are days they deliver to our house 3-4 times a day. It would infuriate me when I would get home from work and on the table there are boxes with that ever so trustful label “Amazon”.

“There’s something wrong with her heart.” Those six words change our lives forever. I’ve written about it extensively on my blog, I’ve ranted passionately to my friends, I’ve been upbeat on my social media (because that’s where we live our best lives), but those six words were devastating in the moment. I stared at my husband when he said that and thought “My daughter? My sweet, tiny, six-day-old infant has something wrong with her? I messed up when I made her?”

One Cold Winter Day
One Cold Winter Day Today as I listen to the news I hate to hear that the Covid-19 cases are going up. This is mostly due to people avoiding taking the vaccine. Now some people can’t take it due to being allergic to some ingredient of the vaccine or have other health related issues. Many are afraid and the fear is actually putting them at risk of dying and possibly infecting others who may also get very ill or die. Then we have the politics of it all. Of all things to get political over taking a vaccine should not be one of them. Some people of color have had horrible relationships with the medical industry. I am old enough to remember when most of the doctors in my inner city community were not people of color. These people depending on their knowledge about us or other people of color would sometimes treat us as though they were doing something very special and we needed to be very appreciative and show it! They were making a great sacrifice to come down here to the ghetto to serve you!
