My Spina Bifida Story
P A R T 1 Hello I'm Hannah Arabella's mum 👋 I have set Arabella this account up to share her spina bifida story and help others to understand Arabella's pretty hidden disability considering the severity. I was 19 when I fell pregnant with Arabella in the February, I was over the moon and I was around 8 weeks. Arabella being my first I suffered really bad with morning sickness, and i was bed bound for what felt like a week but was around 3 days. I was extremely nervous as I had suffered a miscarriage previously , but was so excited for my 12 weeks scan that was just round the corner. I spent those few weeks building up to it just relaxing and taking it easy (which can I say looking back now 3 children on was lovely 😂).I finally reached my 12 week scan and everything was perfect, I cried with joy seeing my little jelly bean on the screen in front of me and left with a huge smile on my face. After this I couldn't keep my excitement in, i spent the build up to my 20 weeks scan shopping and relaxing as much as I could (belly growing this wasn't easy). During this time I had all the general check ups, midwife appointments etc, in which babies heart beat was good and strong every single time. On the day of my 20 week scan I woke up with the biggest smile on my face and was struggling to keep my excitement in until the afternoon when my scan was. I remember getting to the hospital and just thinking this is it I'm going to find out whether your a boy or a girl and I couldn't wait. I entered the room where I got myself ready to lay down and have my scan whilst giving my details to the ladies. Excited as I could be she went on to scan. I was beaming "I can see my not so little bean on the screen again" and was so big , I was so focused on seeing my baby I hadn't noticed that the lady scanning me hadn't really said an awful lot, and was focusing around the head.. I asked if everything was ok? To then be answered with I'm just going to get a second opinion. By this point I was 20 and confused my heart dropped and I had no idea what was going on. The lady returned with a plus 1 and went on to explain it was a girl, but there was complications.

The Birth Of Our First Child
It was July 12, 2011, and I was nine months pregnant. I had another two weeks until I was due with my first child. I felt like I wasn't prepared even though I watched and read all the books of what to expect during labor. It was my first child and I was so nervous. Do you blame me for being nervous? Everyone always talks about how labor is so painful. That is what I was nervous about. I wasn't nervous about having a child, I was excited to meet this bundle of joy that I have waited my whole life for. We knew that it was a girl and we had our apartment ready for her to come home. I just wasn't expecting her to come two weeks early.

HOW WOULD YOU FEEL?
My parents married on the 18th. of December 1964. My mother had five children at the time. I came into the picture on the 15th. of October 1965, I thought I had an awesome life! My father was a farmer, outfitter, rancher. My mother cooked at one of our local small town restuarants. So I had many experiences growing up on a farm and learned a great many things. I had a big family( 2 sisters, 3 brothers) . I thought I was loved and wanted... but. Certain things didn`t add up after a while.

My Journey
The earliest memory I can think of is when I was about 6 years old. I don't know why I can't remember further back than that, but I know a lot of things from my childhood have been blocked out. I remember living in Florida and my mother made chicken and dumplings and I ate so much that it made me sick. I also remember attending school there for a short period of time. We moved a lot when I was a kid so the small happy memories of places always brings a smile to my face.

TRIGGER WARNING: SUICIDE MENTION My aunt died of leukemia in Dec 2018. She never found a bone marrow match. She never heard of Be The Match. That aunt was my mom’s older sister. The rest of the family didn’t know about Be the Match either. Turns out, it allows life-saving bone marrow transplants to be found for those with cancer. Black people have a 23% chance of finding a stem cell donor. One reason is lack of knowledge about it because no one in my family knew. No doctor said it!

Monster brought family together
Monster brought family together Me and my three kids are used to being out and about all day....I take them for groceries...normal shopping, parks, Starbucks, extra curriculum activities...ice cream dates and even lunch at fancy restaurants!! Hubby works 2+ hours away (including traffic time)...he is only able to hang out with us as a family on weekends. However, If there are get together on weekends- we don’t get to hang out as a family so much....
