Tears of Thanksgiving
"Imagine a picture perfect Thanksgiving Day. The last of the leaves falling off the trees in the gentle breeze make a sound when they touch down as crisp as the apples used to bake the pies. The kids outside playing with the family dog has spiked the curiosity of the cat who gets his digs in once in a while, pouncing gleefully on the unsuspecting victim. The smells from the kitchen are enough to cause anyone's stomach to verbalize it's eagerness and anticipation of the meal to come."

Little biscuits and a doll with real hair
When I tell you I was raised in the country, I mean it. I grew up in the Delta of Mississippi. Yazoo County, Mississippi to be exact. Saying that today makes me wanna throw up, but when I was younger, I was proud of where I came from. It's funny how that childlike vision changes when you're older. My mamaw is the one that I say raised me. I know without a shadow of a doubt my morals and standards came from her. She taught me everything. From how to check the hen's nest for chicken eggs to how to be a debutant. Mamaw and Papaw lived on a farm with all kinds of animals, a smoke house, a cabin and a pond. I can still smell that smokehouse to this day. GROSS!

Mothers Letters
LETTER 1 I’m the lady with the dead baby. It’s okay, I’m allowed to be so blunt because it’s my truth. The truth I live with every single day. I am the lady whose baby died. One day my baby was living and the next day he was gone. That is what happened. It doesn’t offend me if you acknowledge this. It’s actually nice someone takes an interest.

How To Manifest A Partner
I’ve always heard about people who believed the Universe (or God or something out there) would take care of them, but I never had that kind of faith. I grew up in the Church, but my father always said: “God takes care of the big picture. It’s your job to take care of the details.”

Sweet Winter
Morning “Mrs. Baxter?” The young woman knocked softly on the screen door. “May I come in?” Cora Baxter, who had been snoozing lightly in the warm sunlight filtering in through the living room window, took her time to get up from her chair by the heat register and walked slowly to the front door. The hardwood floors creaked under the weight of her shuffle. As she approached the front door, she had to squint her eyes to try to discern her afternoon visitor.

Living With A Narcissist
When my dad died when I was 7, my cousin who was 30 years old at the time had gotten custody of my brother and me. At first everything was fine and going well. Then by the time I turned 12, everything changed. I was grounded for absolutely everything. At that time it was just me lying about little things. As the years progressed, the things I had gotten grounded for got ridiculous. If something wasn’t cleaned right or done right, I was grounded. If I had a small pile of clothes that weren’t in the dirty clothes basket, I was grounded, and my room was searched. My brother and I had shared a room for a couple years before my cousin’s oldest son had moved out and my brother had moved into the other room with my cousin’s youngest, but once her oldest moved out and my brother moved into the same room as her youngest, let me just say if that other bed in my room wasn’t clean and strictly just have extra blankets, pillows and sheets on it, I was grounded and my whole room was searched. She would purposely find every reason to ground me and yell at me. If I didn’t get grounded for a whole week, she would go through my room while I was at school and once I got home, I was yelled at and grounded.

Baby's Daddy
I remember the first time we met. You were at my brother Tony's jouse in Spring Valley with your brother Herold. I went to my brothers house that day to do my laundry. You were in the garage sitting with my brother drinking a beer and I think smoking weed but I could be wrong about that. You flirted a little. I didn’t think anything about it. Later after I got home Tony called me and said “You know Bobby and Herold that were at my place? They both think your pretty. Which one can I give your number to”. I giggled and asked what they said “Herold said you have big boobs and Bob asked if her could have your number”. I told Tony to grant Bobby’s request. It took you a few days but he called me. He asked me out on a date. At the time I had a 3 year old son and was a single mom. I told him I’d have to find a sitter so he offered to come to my house and bring dinner “you like pizza don’t you”. I said yes I do but my hips seemed to like it more. Lol.

Best Thing in My Life
“Who is this.” I asked my mom as I stared up at a very tall stranger. He had short dirty brown buzz cut hair and these magnificent green eyes. They almost looked like emeralds when you looked at them in the sunlight. He had on a brown button up coat with a black hood in the back. Along with blue jeans that had rips in them, and parts had faded so much that they looked white rather than blue. He was wearing some black running shoes that looked worn down. His face was very sharp and clean cut with no facial hair along with cherry red lips that was complemented by his small nose. His ivory skin glistened in the sunlight. I only reached up to his belly button because of how tall he was. Who are all these people? Everyone around me is very tall and white they all look the same except him. “Who is he.” I'm asking my mom at five years old, very curious about all the people around the fire that the men had made. In front of the little chop shop on the big space of land that these people owned I stare at the boy that is not like anyone I see.
