Introduction In my Vocal posts, I often mention Frank Zappa, his music and his words. You can read some of these stories here.
This is a Vocal + Assist challenge on Facebook which you can see here Music is "Zomby Woof" by Frank Zappa from "Overnite Sensation"
This is my first attempt at a villanelle and it isn't technically perfect, but I am happy with it. In fact, it is not a villanelle at all, but I think it is a worthy poem and hope you do too.
Introduction When I work from home I listen to a lot of music over a lot of genres. Because of my age I listen to music that was released way before some of my friends were born, but then again I listen to a lot of music that was released before I was born so just because music is not “of your time” does not mean you should not listen to it.
Alan Gold asked me about why I had a double name on Facebook and Vocal. I thought I had written about this on Seven Days In but I couldn’t find any trace of it to fill out this piece. I mean this is just about how I got a nickname and appropriated it for myself.
Introduction These are some observations on the music industry from before I was born up to the present day. Musicians are dependent on others showing some appreciation of their work, be it a busker hoping for coins in the street, or selling records in the hope of making a crust (though hoping for a lot more than that.
What This Is About I thought I would put together a thirteen song playlist of cover versions that are a long way from the original versions.
Introduction Very often people are stumped for things to write about. On the train today I was trying to watch an episode of "Supernatural" and then the train wifi took a hissyfit and decided it wasn't playing anymore so I started observing people and things, and started thinking about inspiration and story prompts, and thought when I get home maybe I could make a story out of this.
I chose "What's the Ugliest Part of Your Body" by Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention (the of Invention was added by the record company so try and avoid offending the more genteel minds) bcause at times it is especially if it values money over friendship.
I have a bit of a headache , it’s half an hour after midnight , so I’m just into Sunday morning but I feel that I need to write something. I sort of feel if I don't write then I lose something and I can always lie in tomorrow, I don’t have to get up for work until Monday.
Introduction. I thought I would just list some of my Vocal creations that have a lot of reads but do not seem to have to been read by many Vocal Creators. This is not a whine but just something I have noticed (I do get a lot of Vocal reads and writes) and if you read this you may see something of mine that you missed.
We don’t need anything new, there is enough music to keep us going for the rest of our life on streaming services like Spotify and the like. Many years ago , lots of shops sold records but some would only stock the Top 30, and this led to the premise that if the top thirty never changed there would never be any new music.
I’ve been relistening to the first five Little Feat albums this week. Little Feat were one of the nearest things to a perfect American band that you could hear, probably on a par with The Band. I had been fascinated with their album covers starting at “Sailin’ Shoes”.
Introduction As I write this or rather put this together, there are forty-one hours to go before the Vocal "Just A Minute" Challenge, and it got me thinking, what about a playlist of songs that last sixty seconds or less, and there are a lot of good ones that are literally gone in sixty seconds.
This is in response to Dharrsheena's challenge in True Crime, Horror Story & Dark Poetry here It's time for another #WritingChallenge ! Based on the prompt below, you can write either a #story or #poem that includes a funeral, a bouncy house and lifeless body/bodies. Make it as twisted and as creepy as you can!
The Intro I first heard the Alabama 3 as the intro music to the Sopranos, "Woke Up This Morning". I'm not sure if they made a lot of money from it, but I bought their debut album on the back of hearing it.
Introduction Dexy's Midnight Runners came on the radio covering Van Morrison's "Jackie Wilson Said" and I thought could I put together a playlist of songs or band singing about other singers or bands. We obviously have something to kick off this one and another has just come into my head, bands named after songs, but that can wait awhile.
Introduction My friend Lee from Japan used to work for me many years ago and we loved the Bonzo Dog Band, particularly Vivian Stanshall.
