The Secret Compartment Economy: Why Schools Cannot Win the Phone War
On e-commerce platforms, one thermos has an inner liner whose bottom unscrews into a compartment. The product page says: “Double-layer hidden compartment, metal-detector-proof.” Next to it is a storage box shaped like a fake book. Open the cover and inside is a phone-sized hollow, with the product image helpfully labeled “lockable.” Scroll further and alarm clocks, desk lamps, lunch boxes, and tissue boxes have all been remade for the same purpose: hiding phones.

My Intern Turned In 1,000 Keywords in 20 Minutes. Then I Asked Him One Question.
Those Three Seconds When the intern handed me the keyword list, I was at the water dispenser filling my cup. He called out, "Zhou, it's done." I walked over. The screen held more than a thousand keywords. The formatting was neat. The categories were clear. He had even color-coded the search-volume ranges.

I Used a College Theorem on My Exam. The Grader Drew a Line Through It.
The scout and the bricklayer The first time I used a theorem I was not supposed to use, I lost four points. The answer was right. The method was not. I had written the name of a university calculus rule, and the grader drew a line under it and wrote: No basis. Four points gone. Not because I was wrong. Because I had walked into the exam with a foreign passport.

You Don’t Hate Liang Canbin’s Differential Geometry. You Hate the Entry Point.
You open Liang Canbin. The first page defines a topological space. A few pages later, you meet manifolds, homeomorphisms, tangent spaces. You know every symbol. You cannot connect them. You ask why manifolds need topology. You ask why the metric needs tensors. The first five chapters do not answer. The answers sit later in the book, or they assume you will fill them in yourself.

I Chose My College Because of One Line of Poetry
When the college entrance exam scores came out, I could apply to Fudan or Nanjing University. The majors were similar. The cities were both good. I wrote Fudan first on the application form. My pen stopped. I crossed it out and wrote Nanjing University. Because of one line: “Four hundred and eighty temples of the Southern Dynasties, how many towers and terraces in mist and rain?”

Why English Still Matters for Ordinary People
The argument over English as leverage flared again in September 2026. Supporters point to doubled salaries. Critics call it worship of a language. The surface fight is about English. The deeper question is whether ordinary people still have a low-cost way to change their situation.

The Evolution of the Timmies Lid
I distinctly recall these older flap-like, waffle-grooved, peel-back Tim-Hortons lids. And though it’s been years since I last saw the original lid, it’s hard to forget the mess they actually made: just consider your car cup holder at the slightest road dip on your commute through the mountains.

We’re Raising the First Generation That Can’t Read Past 400 Words
The vanishing reader: why Gen Z’s test scores are falling In 2025, the OECD released its latest PISA results. Reading, mathematics, and science scores among 15-year-olds in most Western nations fell again. The decline started around 2012. After the pandemic, it sped up. Reading took the hardest hit. PISA tracks a group it calls rushed readers. These students skim questions, do not finish texts, and guess. In 2018, 6.6 percent of students fell into that group. By 2025, 11.4 percent. The number nearly doubled.

The Relational Ontology of Personhood. AI-Generated.
Core Thesis Reality is intelligible through ordered relation. To identify anything as a determinate thing is to locate it within distinctions, boundaries, conditions, and modes of relation that make it the kind of thing it is. A thing is not understood merely by naming that it exists. It is understood by asking what it is, where it exists, when it exists, how it exists, what relations make that mode of existence possible, and whether its mode of being rises to the level of personhood.

Are Silver Britannias Worth Buying? An Honest Look at Britain’s One-Ounce Bullion Coin
There is a moment that arrives for almost every steady silver buyer, and it usually happens at a kitchen table. The tube is open. The coins are laid out on a folded towel, because you learned early not to set silver down on bare wood. You have been buying the same American Silver Eagle for years, one order at a time, the way some people buy savings bonds.
