Balancing Acts: Canada and the United States Boost Oil Production Alongside Clean Tech Investments As of 2023, both countries have increased their oil and gas production, reaching record targets and profits. In December 2023, the US became the largest oil producer globally, with 13.5 million barrels of oil produced per day. In early 2024, Canada produced 4.9 million barrels per day, becoming the fourth-largest oil producer behind the US, Saudi Arabia, and Russia (Financial Post). Both countries are expected to hit new records in 2024, with 14 million bpd and 5.4 million bpd, respectively. The top-listed oil and gas producers in the US reported a combined net income of $313 billion in the first three years of President Biden’s term, three times the $112 billion generated during the same period under President Trump (Financial Times). In Canada, oil and gas corporations are also producing record revenues.

Christianah TaiwoPublished 17 days ago in Earth9 Incredible Facts About The Urban Heat Island
The urban heat island phenomenon is a fascinating but worrying aspect of modern cityscapes. As cities continue to expand and develop, they create unique microclimates with temperatures much higher than the surrounding rural areas. This phenomenon, known as the urban heat island effect, is caused by various things such as an abundance of concrete and asphalt, a lack of vegetation, and an increase in human activities.
Why does a bee have so many eyes
Bees are fascinating creatures that play a crucial role in pollination and the ecosystem as a whole. One of the most distinctive features of bees is their compound eyes, which are made up of thousands of individual lenses. These eyes allow bees to see the world in a unique way and help them navigate their surroundings with precision.
Amjad AltakrouriPublished 19 days ago in EarthWhy is human blood red
Human blood is red due to the presence of hemoglobin, a protein molecule found in red blood cells. Hemoglobin plays a crucial role in the transport of oxygen from the lungs to the tissues and carbon dioxide from the tissues back to the lungs. This process is essential for sustaining life and maintaining the body's functions.

Environmental changes are driving evolution at an unprecedented pace. The harsh reality of a changing climate isn’t only affecting human civilization and at-risk animal populations — ripples of the phenomenon are already visible everywhere. Recent studies have painted a picture of just how drastic these changes already are for life on earth, by focusing on the rapid adaptations of flowering plants. Due to the extreme effects human activity is having on insect population decline, flowers have begun to evolve to give up on insect-caused pollination.
Olivia L. DobbsPublished 20 days ago in EarthBlack fuel turns into clean fuel
India's energy needs keep on increasing day by day. Coal is an important source of energy that covers more than half of the energy needs of India. But burning of coal is very harmful and causes several environmental issues. As India is on their path toward achieving a green economy through sustainable development it is very much important to have sustainable and cleaner energy sources. In the interim budget for 2024, the Government of India announced many development plans in the clean energy sector. Coal gasification of 100 metric tons by the year 2030 is one such plan. Coal gasification is an alternative and better way of using coal to produce energy. It’s also more environment-friendly and can reduce carbon emissions. As you know Coal releases a lot of energy upon combustion and is used in thermal power plants to generate electricity. Another major use of coal is to produce coal gas or town gas, but it’s not very prevalent nowadays. Coal is considered to be the most polluting fossil fuel. Its by-products include several greenhouse gases, predominantly carbon dioxide (CO2). But, Coal gasification is a process in which the coal is transformed into electricity, hydrogen, and other forms of energy through partial oxidation. The coal is subjected to a high-temperature pressurized container (which is called a gasifier) and combined with hot steam and controlled amounts of oxygen under high temperatures and high pressures to generate a new component called synthetic gas or syngas. The syngas is a mixture of carbon dioxide, hydrogen, methane, ammonia, nitrogen, and carbon monoxide. The syngas is cooled, and as much as 99 percent of the pollutant-forming impurities are removed. Different coal gasification technologies such as the moving bed, fixed bed, and fluidized bed are widely used.
