Movie Review: Michael. Honorable Mention in The Most Overrated Challenge.
I may be among the minority who hold this opinion, but I believe the film Michael that explored the early years of Michael Jackson (1966-1988) was hyped and overrated.

LaLaLand: All That Jazz and Absolutely No Joy. Top Story - August 2026.
I wanted to love La La Land . In fact, for approximately five glorious minutes, I did. The film opens on a Los Angeles motorway, where an ordinary traffic jam explodes into colour, movement and music. Drivers climb out of their cars, dancers leap across bonnets and an entire gridlocked road becomes the stage for “Another Day of Sun.” It is bold, joyful and unapologetically theatrical. Here, at last, was a modern film musical that understood the sheer pleasure of the genre. It was not embarrassed by people bursting into song. It did not apologise for its choreography or try to disguise its sentimentality beneath layers of irony. It promised romance, spectacle and a little bit of magic.

The Favourite Certainly Wasn’t Mine
There are films you dislike because they are badly made. There are films you dislike because they are offensive, incoherent or completely devoid of artistic merit. Then there are films like The Favourite : films whose talent you can see, whose performances you can appreciate and whose critical acclaim you can understand intellectually—while still spending almost two hours wondering when you are finally going to be allowed to go home.

Bohemian Rhapsody. Runner-Up in The Most Overrated Challenge.
The phrase you might consider when watching a dodgy film is suspension of disbelief. It means try and get over what the story is saying and ignore anything that doesn't seem right or real. So, for example, if you don't believe aliens are real ,you can accept for the film that they are. Biographical films, known occasionally as biopics. you would hope were closely linked to reality. That is normally true in many cases, until Bohemian Rhapsody came along.

As any archaeologist or historian will tell you, don't study our field unless you want to be angry or disappointed all the time. This joke is largely pointed to films, novels, and video games, all of which those of us in these professions still enjoy despite our seemingly contradictory reservations. The method most of us use is simple: we separate our acknowledgement of its value as entertainment from its historical or literary accuracy. As such, this is how I will structure my review in order to maintain fairness to Christopher Nolan and the entire cast and crew of his 2026 adaptation of Homer's Odyssey.

Grease is the word, but it’s overrated. Yes, I’m aware of the number of people I’m about to offend. In the fifteen years that I taught choir and theatre, students would beg me to consider Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey’s raunchy musical about working-class teenagers navigating sex, romance, rebellion, and peer pressure in 1950s Chicago for either a movie day or a mainstage production.

The Demon Does, Too
The Devil Wears Prada was so successful that the book became a movie, and the movie generated a sequel, now available on Hulu. Yes, Anne Hathaway looked phenomenal in the Chanel boots. But that’s not why we’re here. I read the book, and I saw the first movie (at home, for free). When the sequel becomes free, I may scrutinize it. We’ll see.

Of course, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is not your usual summer blockbuster. It is neither a star-filled rom-com nor an action-packed, car-chasing thriller. It isn't based on a DC comic, nor set in the Marvel Universe. It has a very different interpretation of intellectual property. Despite this, it has set box office records that even The Avengers failed to reach.
