In the spring of 2017, Nicole Gordan suddenly began having headaches -terrible headaches accompanied by slurred speech and memory loss. Gordon went to the doctor about a month into the symptoms, hopeful she’d find out the cause and get treatment going. That’s when she learned shocking news: she’d been shot and bullet fragments were lodged in her head. Gordon had no recollection of a gun ever being pointed in her direction, much less ever getting shot.

Another month passed before police learned the story behind the strange bullet in her head: her boyfriend, Jerrontae Cain, shot her in the head -and the bullet went undetected for weeks as it lodged in her head.

Argument Ends With Shattered Glass

Gordon did recall an argument she had with her boyfriend about a month earlier. She told police the driver side door window of her car had been shattered, knocking her out. She said she sustained a wound to the left side of her face above her eye.

She went on to tell police she passed out and woke up at the home of Mr. Cain’s mother. The woman was treating her for “glass in the face,” according to an incident report filed with an Atlanta Police Department. She stated her shirt was covered in blood.

Gordon stayed at Mrs. Cain’s home for two days before returning to her own home.

Cain, His Mother Speak to Police

Cain and his mother both told police Cain refused medical treatment after the incident. They described Gordon as a “raging alcoholic” who had crashed her car into a gate, a vehicle, and then a tree causing her driver side window to shatter.

Police found his statements inconsistent and began investigating more thoroughly. Investigators soon learned Gordon owned a .25 caliber shotgun which had gone missing around the time of the incident.

Police never located the firearm or bullet casings and doctors did not remove the bullet from her skull.

Any effort “to remove the projectile could cause the victim’s death,” a Fulton County District Attorney press release stated.

After a two-hour stand-off, FBI agents found Cain hiding in an attic and took him into custody. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery, and two counts of firearm possession.

Cain Violent History

Cain had 13 prior arrests before this 2017 incident, including a sexual battery conviction in 2010. He had an open case on burglary charges at the time as well.

Gordon’s friends testified on her behalf during his trial, telling the court about Cain’s violent outbursts and how they saw Gordon with “bruises nd black eyes” on several occasions.

A judge sentenced him to serve 25-years in prison. After his release, he’ll also serve five years of probation.
