For a more detailed breakdown, you can watch my video on YouTube here:

Logan Mwangi was a 5-year-old boy who lived with his mother, Angharad Williamson (31) his stepfather, John Cole (40) and eventually his older stepbrother, Craig Mulligan (14). In every photograph of Logan, he is a smiley, cheery curly haired little boy who seemed well loved. However, behind the photos he was found in a cruel and dark situation.

Logan Mwangi was born on March 15th 2016, only a day before his mothers 25th birthday. When Logan was born, Angharad decided to move from Essex to a town in South Wales called Bridgend to get support from her mother, Clare Williamson. Logan’s father, Ben Mwangi, joined them in Bridgend too. Unfortunately, the relationship between Logan’s parents broke down and they split up. Angharad got herself a part-time job at the local post office where she met a solider that was stationed at the nearby army barracks. They hit it off so well and eventually got married but it didn’t last long. They ended up getting a divorce after she got her newly-wed husband convicted of assaulting her.

Angharad Williamson Before Her Wedding

Angharad moved in with her mother and adjusted to life as a single mother. In January 2019, she was awarded a two-bedroom council flat from the council. The first few months went really well, however, in April 2019, Angharad decided to go out for the night to the Railway Pub in the town centre. She met a 6ft 4, 15 stone man called John Cole who she found to be very charming. After sleeping together, they decided to stay as a couple and it didn’t take long for John to move into Angharad’s council flat becoming Logan Mwangi’s new stepdad, along with another child he was already a stepfather too, Craig Mulligan.

John Cole has suspected ties to the National Front, a far-right fascist political party in the UK with very racist views. After moving in, Logan ended up being violently mistreated by John as he was a mixed-race child. Angharad eventually began to follow suit with the string of abuse. Friends of the couple have come forward stating that they witnessed many scenarios of abuse towards Logan including; forcing Logan to do push-ups as punishment when he was only 3 or 4 years old; Eating takeaway foods and treats in front of him and rubbing it in while forcing him to eat only a bowl of cereal; constantly locking him in his room behind a barred gate whilst berating him; and locking Logan outside in the cold with no shoes on in his pyjamas whilst they sat inside laughing and drinking coffee.

John Cole and Angharad Williamson

In August 2020, Angharad took Logan to the hospital claiming he suffered a dislocated arm when he fell down the stairs. When questioned by officers she explained that she tried to pop his arm back in herself and sent him to bed with some Calpol. She only took him to the hospital because his arm still didn’t look right in the morning. Logan was found to have actually sustained a fractured humerus. Months later, in January 2021, Angharad called the non-emergency line and admitted to police that Logan’s teenage stepbrother, Craig, had actually pushed him down the stairs and it was actually John that tried to fix Logan’s arm back into place. She said she lied to protect them.

In March 2021, Logan was placed on the child protection register due to concerns about his welfare. A burn mark was found on his neck which was claimed by John and Angharad was the hot bath tap, However, it later emerged in court that his own mother had taken a hot spoon from out of her coffee and pressed it against his neck because he was “being annoying.” When social workers arrived at the property for their unscheduled visits, they always noted the flat as being clean, Logan was always well presented and had plenty of toys to play with. Eventually, in June 2021, Logan was demoted to the child in need register for children who are deemed not at risk but need help with their development. Around the same time, John and Angharad were going through the child courts to get full custody of Craig Mulligan, which they were awarded. On the 26th of July 2021, 14-year-old Craig officially moved in with the family. The plan was for Logan and Craig to share a room until they moved into a bigger place. Unfortunately, in the last week of July, Logan tested positive for Covid-19 so they looked him in his room behind a barred gate with the curtains closed and forced him to face the wall when food was brought in. Craig was sleeping in the living room during this time.

Craig Mulligan

On July 27th John facetimed a friend just after midnight who saw Logan sat on the stairs behind the gate colouring numbers. He seemed joyful and happy. This was the last time anyone outside the people he lived with saw Logan alive.

On July 30th Craig’s social worker visited the property but was denied entry by both John and Angharad under the ruse of Logan’s Covid diagnosis.

At 5:46 AM on the morning of July 31st, Angharad Williamson made a 999 call to the police in hysterics reporting Logan missing. A search began 10 minutes later and Logan was found dead in the river not far from his home. He was hypothermic and had injuries consistent with a great fall or high-speed car crash. There was no evidence of drowning so it was clear he had died before he was put into the river. Logan was found in a Spiderman pyjama top and dinosaur pyjama trousers.

Once police started to investigate Logan's death, they managed to put together a timeline of events from a CCTV camera from a nearby house that overlooked his home. John Cole and Craig Mulligan were seen leaving the house in the early hours multiple times to dump Logan’s body and his ripped dinosaur pyjama top. It was evident that they had put him different clothing before leaving him in the river. The security camera also caught Angharad switching the lights on and off in Logan’s room numerous times whilst the males were out of the house.

On August 1st, around 6pm, police arrested John Cole, Angharad Williamson and Craig Mulligan on suspicion of murder. Once in police custody, it didn’t take long for them to turn on each other and start pointing fingers. John admitted to putting Logan’s lifeless body in the river but says he had nothing to do with his death. He claims he was woken up by Angharad who was shouting about Logan being dead. Craig claims he thought he was just fly tipping rubbish when he went to the river with his stepfather and Logan was still alive in the house. He later claimed he did hear Angharad shouting about Logan being dead before they left. Angharad pushed the blame to Craig and John, claiming she was asleep the entire night and the lights that were clearly being switched on and off were just security lights.

The trial for the murder of Logan Mwangi began at Cardiff Crown Court on February 21st 2022. It concluded after two months of evidence which included witnesses of the abuse Logan regularly experienced. On April 21st 2022 John Cole was found guilty of murder with Angharad Williamson and Craig Mulligan being found guilty of both murder and perverting the course of justice. John Cole had already pleaded guilty to the lesser charge.

John Cole was sentenced to a minimum term of 29 years. and Craig Mulligan must spend 15 years behind bars.
