People have long been captivated and bewildered by murder mysteries, and many examples continue to confound detectives and capture the attention of the general public. This list features 10 of the most prominent unsolved murder cases that continue to be surrounded by mystery and lack resolution. Law enforcement organizations have been unable to investigate these instances, leaving eerie questions and unanswered tales in their wake.

- In the 1947 film The Black Dahlia, aspiring actress Elizabeth Short was brutally murdered in Los Angeles. When her dismembered body was discovered in a deserted area, the media went crazy. Although there were many potential suspects and conspiracy theories surrounding the case, the killer's identity has never been known for sure.

- The Villisca Axe Murders occurred in the small Iowan town of Villisca in 1912, when eight individuals, including six children, were brutally killed while they slept by being struck with an axe. The murderer was never found, even though the crime scene was found the next morning. The terrifying mystery of the Villisca Axe Murders still follows the area.

- Jack the Ripper terrorized the streets of London's Whitechapel neighborhood and is regarded as one of the most notorious unsolved murder mysteries in history. Victorian society was outraged by the serial killer's gruesome killings of female prostitutes. 4- Serial killer known as "The Zodiac Killer" was active in Northern California during the end of the 1960s and the beginning of the 1970s. The killer's exact identity has remained a mystery despite thorough investigations and a large number of suspects.

- In Germany, a secluded farm was the scene of the Hinterkaifeck Murders. The perpetrator stayed on the farm for days before the bodies were found, viciously killing six members of the Gruber family with a pickaxe. The reason behind the crime and the name of the culprit remains unknown, making this one of Germany's longest-running unsolved crimes.

- The Somerton Man (1948): Also known as the Tamam Shud case, this puzzling enigma centers on the finding of a man's body on an Australian beach. The discovery of a ripped piece of paper with the words "Tamam Shud"—which, in Persian, means "ended" or "finished"—in the man's pocket provided a series of puzzling hints. This case is one of Australia's longest-running mysteries because the man's identity and the circumstances of his death are still unknown.

- (1981) The Keddie Cabin Murders. Three members of the Sharp family and a friend of the family were discovered brutally killed at a cabin in Keddie, California. Investigators were baffled by the case despite numerous suspects.
