The Last Night

The story of the fight between good vs. evil.

At 2:00am in Cádiz a group of darkly clothed young delinquents arrived at a sandstone wall surrounding a traditional waterfront mansion. Their break-in area had been strategically chosen by Alexander. The wall was to be weakest here, erosion having partially eaten it away. It would also provide direct access to their enemies living quarters.

In the shadows, the boys scoured for signs of a trench. Alexander had sent two men to prepare for the break-in last night. Those two were long gone though. With only the moonlight to guide them (they dared not use torches), the group had to move slowly. The grainy soil underfoot felt wet and soggy. The wind whistled past them with trees leaves falling around them.

The boys looked around cautiously and stepping slowly to make no noise. Axel and Emmett, started to carry their tools towards were the trench was meant to be, glancing around discreetly, Everett and Emerson followed. But, their trench was nowhere to be seen. The Mafia must have discovered their plans. Just when they were about to give up, Emmert struck gold. The others approached him quickly as he silently signalled to them. He stood in front of pile of rocks, niched into the side of the wall. At first nothing looked odd about this rock cluster, it looked exactly like the others. But, when Axel got up close he noticed they were not as damp or as weathered as the others. These were new. Silently, the boys considered each other. It was clear the Mafia had found their trench. They could be walking into a trap. But there was no turning back now, Alexander would kill them if they failed.  In unspoken agreement, they shifted the rocks and began digging at the trench.

Not long after, the boys reached a wall of rotting greenwood. This must be the boundary to the cellar. Axel grabbed a shovel and started to pound at the wall. Chunks of splintering wood flew out.

"Shhh! Shhhhh!" The boys spluttered to Axel. Axel disregarded them, he had already created a hole big enough for them to climb through. As the boys hurry through the storage cellar wafts of wines, food and smoke drifted through. They hurried through aisles of different foods and spices, with jars full of mustard coloured grains of herbs, bowls of exotic fruits and, cups of beans and seeds.

The boys glanced through a crack in the broken door and saw two broad backs with sweat dripping down their necks. They busted through the door stabbing both mafia guys at once. The men fell to the ground, blood dripped from their bodies, they laid lifeless. The boys collected all the cash that fell from the men's pockets and stuffed it in their bag. The boys scrambled up the trench and began to cover the niche with the soil and rocks they had removed an hour ago.

Once they had finished the boys scattered away from the scene and ran down the beach. Axel stumbled under the weight of the money bag. Emmert opened the little black notebook from Alexander. It was covered in blood and dirt from their fight, but that did not matter. Emmert opened to the last page. He could just make out the address Alexander had given them: 42 Av. Fernández Ladreda.  He signalled to the others that they needed to run further.

They arrived. The boys crept into the yard, and found a plane. It was different to the one Alexander had described but that did not matter. Axel threw the duffle bag, with the twenty thousand dollars onto the plane. Then the boys scattered.

Two days later, the four young delinquents were reported dead in Senator Cádiz Spa Hotel. The money was not placed on the correct plane but the plane of Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, the King of Qatar.
