Therapy- psychological reviews - the over prescribing of Prosaic and other anti depressants, our society is constantly striving to make it's citizens normal. What is society's definition of normal: a college degree, a husband or a wife, and children. But what happens to the person being shoved into that mold? When are they allowed to play and explore different sides of their and their friends personalities, A lot of people secretly strive for this. To escape from the routines of life,

Also the personal quirks of the main characters in productions, make it easier for the viewer to accept their own unique qualities. As well the mistakes in their past or present, they are secretly trying to hide.

If you were to read a book about a normal person , as defined by society, you would fall asleep either out of comfort or boredom. Some of the most engaging movies and TV. shows stretch society's norms. The television series " Law and Order. Criminal Intent" with detectives Robert Goren and Alexandria Eames is, centered around the eccentricities of it's characters. Not only the criminals have nebulous behavior but so does one of the lead detectives , Robert Goren. Robert throughout the series is under psychological review. He is constantly fighting to prove the he is emotionally fit to be on the police force. Like all of us he is good at his job but has his moments, when a supervisor might squirm. But he and his partner almost always solve the case.

Just like the average person in the audience he is not a robot or a totally normal person. The one time he did not apprehend the culprit, he had a enthralling verbal exchange with the suspect Nicole Wallace, Each trying to determine the lifetime secrets of the other. He was convinced that she had suffered some kind of childhood trauma. Each bruising the other ones ego. He appeared to be obsessed with her , and figuring out what made her tick, They encountered each other in three different episodes. Her goal was to outwit him. It was a personal contest between the two of them. I didn't feel like he had failed he had just met his equal.

If you enjoy this series you will most likely enjoy the movie "Basic Instincts", with Michael Douglas, Sharon Stone and Jeanne Tripplehorn. Douglas plays a detective , Nick Curran , who is investigating the murder of a rock star. The rock star was killed in the mist of having sex. Sharon Stone's character , Catherine Tramell , is the prime suspect. She is accused of bludgeoning her sexual partner with an icepick.

Cathering Tramell is extremely manipulative and carries nothing about conforming to society's norms. She goes into the police station wearing a short dress, and no underwear. Yes, the male policemen could see her private areas. She is not embarrassed . She appears to get a rush from the policemen's discomfort. She seems to nonchalantly move people around like pieces on a chess board. She fools both the lie Detector machine and the lead detective Nick Curran. who is played by Michael Douglas. Nick becomes obsessed with Catherine. She presents a challenge which stimulates him Nick is under the review of the police department's psychiatrist Dr. Beth Gardner . Played by Jeanne Tripplehorn. They have an on and off again sexual relationship. Dr. Gardner like the other two lead characters is not as mentally sound as someone in her position should be, She appears to have obsessions of her own.

Although it is a murder mystery, the three main character idiosyncrasies make the plot of the story. Like Law and Order ,criminal intent the eccentricities make the story interesting and make the viewer want to come back for more.
