Horrific photos of two children's battered bodies aged 5 and 2 are currently making the rounds online. Their mother and her lover who are allegedly responsible for this crime have been arrested.

A mother and her spouse were detained by the police in Lagos State for allegedly abusing their two young children, ages 2 and 5.

The police detained Busola Oyediran and Akebiara Emmanuel on Friday, January 13, after receiving complaints from nearby residents.

The authorities had been informed by the youngsters' frequent physical abuse by their biological mother and her companion by worried neighbors. Following the report, the police barged into the couple's Egbeda/Idimu residence and took them into custody. Later, the police went to the hospital where the neighbors had taken the abused kids for medical attention.When questioned, the children's mother said they fell off a motorcycle and were seriously hurt.

The state police command's spokeswoman, SP Benjamin, confirmed the arrest and said the pair is now being held in prison and would be charged in court by Monday, January I6. He stated that the children's father has been informed.

Nigerian social media users have taken to different social media platforms to react to this horrible news.

You went further to inflict injuries on a baby that can't even fight for itself. Children are so innocent even after beating them,they will still come back to you for comfort. My question is,how do you feel seeing those inflicted marks on the child?"

One Anihottest wrote, "No way! The report is wrong. They definitely cannot be their biological parents. Maybe it’s a case of aunty/uncle or adopted children. You cannot suffer so much during childbirth to do this to your own kids! Ahn ahn!!"

Punishment for Child Abuse in Nigeria

Child abuse is characterized as an instance where a parent or caregiver puts a child at danger of serious harm by inflicting physical harm, causing death, causing emotional pain, or failing to act at all. The amount of children in the nation who experience mental, physical, emotional, and psychological abuse on a daily basis highlights the need for further study on this subject.

The stigmatization that child abuse causes for the victim is one of its effects, as it has a significant negative influence on society as a whole. Such youngsters develop into emotionally distant, loveless adults who frequently engage in social vices that contribute to unrest in society.

In Nigerian society, it is a well-known truth that kids are forced to beg for money, and there are countless scenes of parents abusing their kids, even as young as babies, exposing them to dangerous environmental toxins and demeaning situations.

Offenders of the aforementioned offences have not been brought to justice under Section 30(1) of the Child's Right Act of 2003. The law expressly forbids the purchase, sale, hire, or any kind of dealing in children for hawking, pleading for alms, prostitution, etc.

Punishment for such acts as stated in Section 30(3) of the Child’s Right Act provides that a person who contravenes the provisions of Subsection (1) of this section commits an offence and is liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term of ten years. The prevalence of child abuse in Nigeria due to the fact that the penalty has not been enforced effectively.
