The 9-1-1 operator listened intensely as Jamilla “Millie” Smith told her that her ex-boyfriend, Daniel Harmon, 34, had broken into her home at 425 Old Jackson Highway and was chasing her down the road in his car, a black Dodge Charger.

The call came into the Aiken 9-1-1 Dispatch Center at 8:41 p.m. on December 2, 2023. One minute later, Millie screams as the car engine revs in the background.

The operator hears Millie plead with Harmon not to hurt her, followed by a loud thump; it is the sound of the phone falling onto the ground. The operator still hears the conversation.

Harmon orders Millie to get inside the car so he can take her to the emergency room.

“No, dont touch me, don’t hurt me,” Millie says between screams. “You hit me,” she said. The male voice says “You jumped in front of the car." Millie replies, “No, I didn’t.”

Millie continues to scream. She tells the man her arm was injured. "You ran over me," she finished.

The car zooms away and Millie has not been seen or heard from since. More than six months have passed since she made that frightening call to 9-1-1.

Millie’s Gone, Mom Reports Her Missing, Charges Filed

Police responded to the area but did not find the vehicle, Millie, or anything unusual. Millie’s mother reported her missing on December 3 when she could not reach her daughter by phone.

Two days later, police found the Dodge Charger parked in front of a group of houses on Carpentersville Road in Augusta. Harmon was found in one of the homes and after an hour-long standoff, was taken into custody on charges of domestic violence. A kidnapping charge was later added to the domestic violence charge.

Police searched the vehicle and found blood in the trunk. DNA testing was conducted on the blood.

Police did not release information regarding the results of the DNA testing conducted on the blood found in the car. On Dec. 23, however, they added murder to Harmon’s charges -the same day as the DNA results came back.

In April 2024, police charged Millie’s cousin, Bryan Alexander Hampton, Jr., 35, with accessory to murder after the fact, although they have released little information related to the arrest.

This 9-1-1 call was the third Millie had made regarding abuse by her ex-boyfriend since August 2023. Police did not arrest him in either of the incidents.

No Information Months After Millie’s Disappearance

It's been more than six months since Millie disappeared, and there has been no activity on her cell phone since she called 9-1-1. This is unlike Millie who kept in touch with her mother every day.

There has not been activity on her credit or debit cards.

Family members say Millie’s children were her world and she would never leave them behind or not call them. She communicated daily with family members who described Millie as a caring, fun-loving person who loved dancing and spending time with her loved ones.

There is a reward of up to $10,000 for information on Smith’s whereabouts. You can call the Aiken County Sherriff’s Office at 803-648-6811 with information about the case or email the family at [email protected].

My deepest condolences to Millie's family. I hope she is found alive by some miracle. I hope they get answers and Millie gets the justice she deserves.
