A jury convicted 33-year-old Cheyenne Hill of Indianapolis of child neglect in the November 2022 murder of her 18-month-old daughter, Elliaunna Plummer. In April 2024, Judge John Plummer III sentenced her to 30 years in prison.

Elliaunna Rushed to Hospital

On November 23, 2022, Hill drove an unresponsive Elliaunna to University Health Hospital Bedford. She was malnourished and her head was swollen and deformed. She suffered extensive injuries, including a brain bleed, broken collarbone, and slashes in her head that warranted treatment from a facility more equipped to handle her injuries. She was life-flighted to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis for treatment. Sadly, Elliaunna succumbed to her injuries three days later.

Hospital staff reported the case as possible child abuse to the local police department. Officers responded to the scene.

“Pictures of [the girl] prior to being transported to Indianapolis revealed a swollen and deformed head and bruising on her forehead and the left and right sides of her face,” a detective wrote. “Red-brownish marks were observable underneath both eyes.”

At the hospital, police learned two calls had been made to Children’s Services in the two days prior to the hospital visit. The reports stated Hill was using drugs and abusing Elliaunna.

Hill Refers to Dying Daughter as “Asshole,” “Dahmer”

While Elliaunna bravely fought for her life, her mother reveled in insulting her to the doctors and medical staff at the hospital and even to the police officers who responded to the scene.

Hill left the hospital to go to work while Elliaunna was hospitalized.

Hill told doctors she thought Elliaunna would “become the next Dahmer,” referring to serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer who killed, dismembered, and ate the body parts of at least 17 men over a 13-year period starting in 1978.

When officers asked Hill why she referred to her dying daughter as Dahmer, she laughed and said she thought Elliaunna was “an asshole.”

Hill told a worker from the Donor Network Family Service, a donor tissue organization, that Elliaunna was “not a nice kid” and that “something wasn’t right with her,” per a report from FOX 59 News.

Hill Arrested, Sentenced to 30 Years

Despite her odd comments and behavior, police did not have enough evidence to arrest Hill until September 2023, nearly a year after Elliaunna’s tragic death. She pleaded not guilty to all charges against her.

At Hill’s trial, numerous family members testified on her behalf. Elliaunna’s father was not among them. Aron Plummber of Missouri stated during his testimony, “I am angry and sad and even attempted suicide. I will never have the chance to be her father. It sickens me to the point of hate.”

Doctors, hospital medical staff, and police testified to the cruel comments Hill made while her daughter lay in a hospital bed near death. They told how emaciated and malnourished Elliaunna was the day Hill brought her into the hospital, how it broke their hearts seeing the tiny toddler in such horrific condition.

Pathologist Dr. Amanda Paul testified that Elliaunna had “multiple impacts throughout the whole head.”

Prosecutors did not show how Hill injured her child, only that she neglected Elliaunna enough to put her child’s life in danger.

Rest easy, Elliaunna Margi Plummer. You were too good for this world. I send my deepest condolences to Aron Plummer and the others who loved Elliaunna.

I hope Cheyenne Hill suffers as much as possible while imprisoned during the next 30 years.
