“It Look Like She Exploded All Over The Place”

Desperate for a child, Lisa Marie Montgomery twice faked a pregnancy so when she announced that she was pregnant again, her family did not pay her much attention. She said she would deliver in December 2004.

When Lisa Marie showed up with a baby, the family was in shock. They convinced themselves that Lisa faked pregnancy again, yet she stood before them with a newborn baby.

Montgomery Plans to Steal a Baby

Her family was correct: Lisa faked her pregnancy, but this time, she took things one step further. She hatched a devious plan to steal a baby. Lisa searched Google for how to perform a C-section and other similar terms.

Lisa Marie Meets Bobbi Jo

Then Lisa Marie met Bobbi Jo Stinnett in an online chat room. A longtime dog breeder, Bobbi Jo was eight months pregnant and happily married to Zeb when Montgomery, using the alias Darlene Fischer, said she wanted to buy a rat terrier puppy. The pair agreed to meet to look at the dogs.

Montgomery told Bobbi Jo that she was also expecting a baby. The two immediately connected and struck up a conversation.

Lisa Marie arrived at Bobbi Jo’s home armed with a large kitchen knife and white cord hidden inside her jacket pocket. The two talked and played with the puppies for some time before Montgomery attacked Stinnett with the rope, strangling her to death.

Montgomery then took the knife and removed the baby, a girl, from Bobbi Jo’s stomach. Lisa Marie fled the scene with the baby. She then called her husband to announce that she had delivered a healthy, beautiful baby girl. The baby miraculously survived.

Mom Finds Daughter Covered in Blood

Bobbi Jo’s mother found her daughter’s lifeless body covered in blood lying on the floor later the same day. Zeb was working. She immediately called police describing the horrific scene by saying that it looked like her daughter’s stomach “had exploded all over the place.”

Paramedics attempted to revive Bobbi Jo but were unsuccessful. She died at the hospital a short time later.

Police issued an Amber alert and using evidence from Bobbi Jo’s phone, quickly discovered that Lisa Marie Montgomery had made arrangements to meet up with her earlier that day.

Montgomery Arrested; Baby Reunited With Father

On December 17, police visited Montgomery’s Melvern, Kansas home where they found her with the baby. She initially told the police the baby was her own. DNA confirmed that the baby was Bobbi Jo Stinnett’s daughter. She was returned to her father who named her Victoria.

Lisa Marie was arrested and charged with “kidnapping resulting in death.” Her lawyers argued that she had pseudocyesis, a mental condition that causes a woman to falsely think that she is pregnant and exhibit signs of pregnancy.

After a trial, Montgomery was found guilty of murder and sentenced to death.
