What would I have done?

The above link is an article I just read about a shooting in Kansas City. An 84-year-old white man shot a black male teen who supposedly mistakenly rang the wrong door bell. Of course, the black and white thing is going to stir the typical racial controversies, but what if it had been white and white or black and black? Would that change the severity of the situation? What if it had been an old black woman shooting at a white male teen? Would that change the severity and would it still be called racist?

I imagine myself as the old man and as the teen. It's an easy mistake to go to the wrong door. That's not a crime if it's truly innocent. As easy as "Does So and so live here? No. Oh, sorry. I'm a little lost." However, the homeowner had a gun for a reason. He obviously got a gun because he felt fear about his home being intruded upon. As a woman, if I lived in a home that might be threatened by dangerous thieves or worse, I'd want a gun or some kind of protection too. Usually, I think about very large, fast and vicious dogs because they warn the intruders to leave so no one has to get hurt.

This story is tragic. An 84-year-old man is in jail. That's sad. A young teenager was shot. That's awful. Why? What we have here is a failure to communicate. What we have here is jumping to conclusions out of fear due to all of the horrible stories we've listened to and witnessed for the past 60 years. What we have here is the typical insanity that occurs in our sad country due to homelessness, a failed economy, pitiful politics, faithless Christians, and basically a woke culture that is still too asleep to change it or stop it.

Pathetic. Tragic. Wasteful. Why? Because some poor old man was scared and some young teenager was lost. That's the bottom line. It's beyond disturbing that we (as a country or civilization or society) accept this as typical "news" and normal every day occurrence. It's unacceptable. While many young and old good people worry about their children and grandchildren and the future of not only one country, but the entire planet, people are still dying for stupid border wars, space, rules that don't make sense or try to make slaves out of people, and general stress that causes so many other biological malfunctions that even educated and caring doctors are burnt out. Stop the Insanity! When does it end? You want people to subscribe to the "bad news" just so you can get a paycheck supplied to you by Rooms to Go? We are not that stupid anymore. You want people to pay a cable bill to watch violence and hate in shows and the "news" and then go on pretending that's "normal" and "acceptable" while one of their family members is on Zoloft or Ridilin? What the heck is wrong with you?

People will say change doesn't come easy or doesn't happen overnight. That's a weak excuse for people who just don't want it to change or don't want to change themselves. I know because I'm like that in many ways. I'm not going to tell you I'm going to quit smoking. I don't care how many negatives you present in your pursuasion. I like smoking. If you really wanted us to quit, they wouldn't be sold at the store.

I'm not asking the world to give up their pleasures or their freedoms. I'm asking the world to think about how insane and awful it is that we watch, listen to, and talk about things like violence, racism, human trafficking, prostitution, and even religious matters, like they are "normal" and should not be changed.

This isn't a corny plea for morality. This is a serious and severe warning. More so than another amber alert or just sirens howling through the night. Look at the weather. Look at nature. Look at people. Do you really think things are normal? They're not! If you think that, you might want to check yourself in to the insane asylum so that maybe you can rediscover the true meaning of normal and abnormal. Just because the birds are still singing and the sun is still rising, doesn't mean that people are normal and everything in civilization is honkey dorey. It's the worse I've ever seen in in 50 years. I act calm, but on the inside I'm truly terrified for the future generations and this planet.

Just because we've accepted all that insanity as "normal" for the past 100 years, doesn't mean that we can't put a stop to it. Just as the people have the power to vote for their chosen leader or to advocate for legal changes, the people also have the power to educate through any means of communication the reality of the world, and the reality of normality.

Racism, violence, and stupid shootings like the above article has described, are all NOT normal. Do we really have to continue on into the future as insane human beings? I truly hope we can heal and make the future better than that.
