Jason Ugwuh was a star basketball player and student with a bright future. His life and potential came to a tragic end when on January 10, 2021, the Kansas City, Missouri teen was shot and killed. His heartbroken sister, 21-year-old Tityana Coppage, vowed to get revenge for her brother -and put her plan into action three days later.

Coppage shot the suspected killer in a drive-by on January 13, 2021. She spotted the suspected killer parked in a parking lot near Benton Blvd. and Thompson Avenue. She fired the weapon several times, shooting Keith Lars once in the leg and once in the chest.

After getting shot, Lars’s brother drove away from the scene, stopped the vehicle, and dialed 911. Paramedics attempted to save the man but he was dead on arrival.

Coppage texted her deceased brother’s phone after the shooting.

“Sent a n***a to my brother. I owe em that body.”

Police Speak With Coppage

Witnesses described a black Ford Escape at the shooting. Police tracked the Ford Escape down to Coppage. She admitted to calling the victim before the shooting but said she did so hopeful that he and her father would settle their conflicts before one of them killed the other.

She went on to tell police that she exchanged gunfire with the victim, the man suspected of murdering her brother, saying it was in self-defense. She said she shot only to return fire from the vehicle.

Police found text message on Coppage’s phone sent to a woman named “Auntie” asking her for .45 calibar bullets. She texted “LOL I used to many on bro.”

Coppage was taken into custody and charged with murder.

A Sad Facebook Post

The day following the death of her brother, Coppage wrote on her Facebook page,

“I tried to shield y’all from everything I had to witness as a kid. I worked long and hard hours to keep a roof over your heads… All I wanted was to see you succeed in school and reach the top. But I still failed you… why didnt you just listen to me out?”

“I just wanted more time with you, that’s all,” the post continued. (In reference to her late brother.)

Police said they do not have any evidence that suggests Lars’ was involved in Jason’s murder. Coppage learned of his alleged involvement in the murder through the community.

Rappers 42 Dugg and DaBaby stepped in with an offer to pay $40,000 to help fund her bail $200,000 bail. Thus far, she has been unable to raise the amount needed to post bail. Coppage remains in custody in the Jackson County, Missouri jail awaiting her trial.

Not the First Tragedy

Unfortunately, this tragedy was not the first Coppage experienced. In 2016, both she and her brother lost their younger brother and cousin, Jayden Ugwuh and Montell Ross, after they were shot while sleeping at their home on 57th Street. The boys were 8 and 9-years-old. More than five years later, their murders remain unsolved.

My Thoughts

No comments really, just think the case is sad all the way around and hope the court takes into consideration all the details of the story during the trial. Also, @DaBaby and @42Dugg should go ahead and pay her entire bail amount.
